to everyone that is special in his or her own way,
to Ms. Loaisiga, my ESOL teacher, who inspired me to write this book.

Some time ago, a baby giraffe named Georgie lived in the forest of Thomasville, Georgia. He had a short neck, big belly, and orange skin. Georgie was different from other giraffes because common giraffes have long necks, slim bodies, and yellow skin.

Georgie is like a diamond!
Don't you think, baby?

Oh yeah, he is a diamond!

Georgie was very excited about his first school day. He woke up very early in the morning, took a shower, put his school uniform on, ate breakfast, brushed his teeth, kissed his parents goodbye, and went to school. While he was walking to school, he was imagining that he would meet many friends and have a great time on his first day of school, but it was not like that.

Good luck baby!

In school, Georgie's classmates were mean to him. As soon as they realized that Georgie was different, they started calling him names. They called him dwarf, orange, and weird.
Georgie was sad like a rainy day. It was unfair that the other animals made fun of him because he was different.

School

Every time Georgie went to school, his classmates threw food on him, laughed at him, or ran away from him. That situation made Georgie to hate school. He felt bad because he thought that every animal was unique and did not have to be like others.

Georgie is an ant! haha

Every night, Georgie went to bed crying thinking that he was ugly and weird. He wanted to hide from everyone during the day.
But at night, he enjoyed spending time outside. He felt more secure when his classmates were not around to make fun of him.
