Once upon a time there was a quiet, peaceful town full of adventurous and curious people. Little did they know that their village would soon be having an unexpected visitor.

One day three friends were walking around town when they came across a very scary shadow! They didn't know what it could be! They ran back and told the village King about the scary beast. They had a scientific law about shadows since they had seen them more than once, and since those shadows never turned out to be good things, they had a theory that all shadows were bad things.

So you three used your senses and made these observations about the shadow! Then you made the inference that it was a scary monster based on what you saw.
The King wasn't worried when he heard about the scary shadow. He knew that science is subjective. Maybe if he saw the same thing he wouldn't think it was a scary monster at all!

Maybe we should use our creativity in order to learn more about the shadow! What if we set up a trap for the potentially scary monster so that we can gather more empirical evidence?
The King went on to explain that empirical evidence is evidence gathered from observation or from experiments.
The King set up a mirror along the path that the friends saw the shadow. He hoped to confuse the creature and get the chance to look at him for himself.
The King saw the thing causing the shadow in the reflection of the mirror. He saw a giant hand with claws on it.

I've seen claws like that before! They look like the claws that are on my very friendly cat, Billy Bob! Maybe this creature is friendly, too!
The King grew up in a household that had a lot of friendly animals around. He had a different perspective on the creature than his friends because he grew up in a different social and cultural context! This means that they grew up learning about things in different ways and that they grew up with different things around them! His friends may have not grown up with friendly animals, so they would assume the creature is mean, but the King grew up with nice animals so he assumed the creature would be nice!

I think that it is safe to go back to the village. I don't think the creature will bother you!
The friends, admittedly unconvinced, left the King and headed back for the village.
