I hope that this book can help educate young people on skin cancer.
I dedicate this book to my Aunt Cheryl who beat skin cancer

This is Sally, she is 35 years old and she is a mom to Dylan. Sally was recently told by a doctor that she has skin cancer. This news made Sally very scared and she did not know what to do, or how she would tell Dylan.

This is Dylan, Sally's son. Dylan is 8 years old and loves basketball, reading and spending time with his family and friends. When his mom told him that she had cancer, Dylan didn't know
what to expect, he was very
scared.
Sally started receiving chemotherapy (chemo for short) to help treat her cancer. Before she started chemo she had a mole removed which is a black circle on the skin that can be skin cancer. She had to go to a really big hospital to receive her chemo. The hospital was scary for her at first, but then she met a very nice doctor named Dr. Smith.
Dr. Smith is a special doctor
called an oncologist, he's a
doctor who helps people
with cancer feel better.

When Sally started receiving chemo she got very stomach sick and started losing part of her hair. This scared Dylan, but he knew that the chemo would eventually make his mommy all good again.
Whenever Dylan is at the hospital with his mommy, he likes it when his mommy tells him stories. Today, Sally told him a very important story.

"I was once a princess in a far away land. I thought that nothing bad would ever happen to me, because of that, I never wore sunscreen. I
would play in the sun all day and
get a little burnt, but
I thought it wasn't a problem.

When I got diagnosed with cancer, my doctors told me that it could be because I never used to put on sunscreen."

"So, I should always wear sunscreen?" Dylan said. "Yes you always should so you can
then protect
yourself from the
sun's big rays."
Sally tells Dylan.
