EDCO 305 Midterm Project

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Hannah. She was on an adventure to become a teacher!

She was passionate, motivated, and ready to do her best for her students! However, she needed to learn more about one thing...technology!

She needed to learn about implementing UDL guidelines, the SAMR model, ISTE standards, and PLCs. She had her work cut out for her!

But then, she began to consider different activities that she knows students enjoy using. One activity is Freckle Math. She realized this aligns perfectly with the Engagement domain in the UDL model! Students are able to engage in math through multiple means of representation and learn at their own pace.
Then it hit her: Freckle Math also rates on the SAMR model as Augmentation! Students are using technology as a direct tool with functional improvement (Puentedura).
Aligning with ISTE standards, Freckle Math helps students become empowered learners and computational thinkers because they are able to set personal goals and show data in many different ways to solve problems. For educators, this aligns with being a leader, designer, facilitator, and analyst because it allows for equitable access, personalized learning experiences, ownership of learning goals, and a variety of summative and formative assessments.
She was getting excited about all of these connections across concepts! She began to explore more...

Hannah began to ponder: "hmm, what is another technological tool that would fit in the Representation domain of the UDL guidelines?" She realized how awesome interactive Audio Books are in supporting students' learning! They provide both a visual and audio representation of key information.

Oh my! And she could also rate this as Substitution on the SAMR model because it is directly substituting a teacher read-aloud.

Aligning with ISTE standards, it helps students become empowered learners because they are able to customize their learning environment in a way that supports their learning. For educators, representation fosters their skills as a leader and designer because they offer equitable access to technology and accommodate learner needs.
