Dear Diary,

    Hi, I'm Royalty and I’m 12 years old. I have leukemia and I've had it since I was 7.  When I first found out that I had cancer, I was completely devastated. My cancer is just getting in my way. I can’t even play volleyball anymore because of my cancer. I can’t stay outside for any more than 30 minutes at a time because of my cancer. I feel like my life is completely ruined, BECAUSE OF MY CANCER!!

Hi, My Name is Royalty...

Anyway, I have had a lot of surgeries and those surgeries have caused me to miss school. I have been home-schooled and I have had personal teachers come to my home to teach me the lessons and skills that the other kids have learned, but it’s just been so different from regular school. I miss all of my friends, and I won’t even be able to see them since we had to move closer to an oncologist for my treatment.

Dear diary,

Can you believe it?

"Tomorrow is my first day of school since i was 7 years old. i am 12 now. i have not been to school in 5 whole years! SO please wish me luck!!"

*****Royalty’s First Day of School*****

    Today is Royalty’s first day of school, and she was really nervous. She did not know what to wear, and she did not know what headband or hat to put on her hairless head. She did not know how the students were going to react to her.

Royalty finally found the perfect outfit; her pink jeans with her blue shirt that said cutie pie on it.She also found the perfect pair of shoes; her jean pageant shoes. Although Royalty found her “perfect first day of school outfit”, she was still very nervous.

*****Royalty and Mom are on the way to school*****

     “Mom, I feel sick, I don’t want to go to school today,” whined Royalty.

    “Royalty, I know you’re nervous, but sweetie you don’t have to make up any excuses. I was in middle school once, so I know all the tricks that you will use, but trust me; it’s going to be just fine.” said her Mom.

I can't believe I get to go to REAL school today!

Is this the right outfit? Is it cute? Does it look good on me?

The sun was shining brightly as she went down the stairs straight to the kitchen, to the delicious smell of chocolate chip pancakes, cheese grits, sausage, and scrambled eggs. The smell of her favorite breakfast was in the air! Royalty exclaimed “Thanks so much Mom! I really need this right now. I’m so nervous about my first day of school that I can’t even think straight." After Royalty ate her breakfast and finished getting ready, she and her mom got in the car and were on the way to school.

CANCER SUCKS

    “I don’t want to go through that Mom, I just don’t. I’d rather stay at home and let my stupid cancer get in my way!” exclaimed Royalty. “You’ll be just fine Royalty. You’re just letting your imagination get in your way. No one is going to pick on you. Besides, why would anyone want to? You’re awesome!!” stated Mom.

“Mom, you went to school like a thousand years ago. You don’t know what it’s like to go to school these days. There are bullies, messy people and just a bunch of DRAMA in general. I just don’t think my poor little soul can handle all of that.” said Royalty, nervously.

“If that’s the case, then you don’t know how it is to go to school either. You’re letting your imagination get the best of you.  Remember, you haven’t been to school in 5 years, so you can’t say I don’t know how it is to go to school because neither do you!"  Mom’s comment made Royalty a little melancholy.

“MOM! You know I would be at school if it was not for my stupid cancer!" said Royalty in a mean tone.

“Royalty, I’m so sorry. Your comment hurt my feelings as well. I’m sorry for hurting your feelings.” said Mom

"I'm sorry too," School has changed a lot since you were last at school." Innocent children are bullied every day, which leads to suicidal thoughts, depression, unusual and strange behavior, and much more. Kids get beat up every day, and suffer from really bad injuries,” noted Royalty.

“You know what Royalty, I am SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR ATTITUDE. You DON'T appreciate ANYONE. Not the people that do for you, not the people that care for you, not the people that wait on you HAND AND FOOT, and not even the people that LOVE you Royalty. And let me tell you, if you think that’s going to get you anywhere in life then you have life ALL THE WAY MESSED UP.” fussed Mom.

*****Arriving at school*****

    “Goodbye Royalty, have a great first day at school,” said Mom.

    “Goodbye mom, and I will try to have a great day today” drawled Royalty sadly.

Royalty got out of the car and went into her new school.

Mom’s comment stayed with Royalty for a long time. She just kept thinking about what her mom had said. She finally got over it and decided she did not care about it anymore. She thought her mom just said what she said to get Royalty to change her actions and the way she treated other people.

I really should think about the way I treat others

In class as they were getting to know each other, Royalty met a sweet girl named Queen. When they first saw each other, they both thought that the other person was shy. Queen was right about Royalty, but Royalty was SO wrong about Queen.

As soon as Queen walked up to Royalty she was friendly and she was very nice. She was a bit loud though. She seemed a bit, uhhhh, overexcited.

"Hi there. I see that you’re new here. Would you like for me to show you around?” blurted Queen with a huge smile on her face.

So, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to have secret dance parties in my room.

I guess it's not so much of a secret now, is it? laughed Queen.

“You don’t have to be nice to me just because I have cancer. I’m pretty sure I can find my own way around,” stated Royalty with a melancholy look on her face.

    “I’m serious. I knew you had cancer, but you seem pretty cool. I can tell that you’re a fighter. You know, dealing with your cancer and all of that. Hey, you should come eat lunch at my table with me?” suggested Queen.

“Ugh, okay. I guess so. I mean what harm could that possibly do?” said Royalty.

Royalty secretly liked that Queen was being so nice to her, but since she had cancer, she tried to seem tough and hard to convince.

You don't have to eat lunch with me. I'm used to eating by myself.

Girl please. I want to eat with some one new!
