Welcome to my Personal narrative.
This is a personal story about something that happened to me, and may be able to help someone else in the future.
Reflecting back on that moment, it feels like a neverending, slow motion dream that I will always remember. I remember scaling the kitchen drawers like a ladder, attempting to steal a sweet, forbidden dessert. I felt sneaky, but confident that I would accomplish my goal. Little did I know, but I would learn a very valuable lesson that night.
On a rare occasion, my parents decided to leave my younger sister and I at home, under the loving care of our grandparents of course. I had barely lived for 5 years, but felt the arrogance of a much older child. I knew my parents expectations for behavior, including finishing my dinner, waiting for dessert, and respecting my Grandma and Grandpa.
After eating my dinner, although I don’t remember what I ate, I became very anxious for dessert, literally like a kid in a candy shop. While my grandparents were busy with my little sister Lori, I quickly devised a plan in my head. After all, I knew exactly where my parents kept the cookie jar. It was located in the cabinet on the right side of the kitchen counter, right above the microwave. I thought to myself, “I can easily climb up there, and they will never know!”.
