"Anthropology demands the open-mindedness with which one must look and listen, record in astonishment and wonder that which one would not have been able to guess." Margaret Mead

Dr. Scott Free is a world-famous anthropologist and explorer. When he heard that there may be a strange new beings living in a remote part of the rain forest, he took the first plane to The Amazon. When he arrived, Dr. Free had a full team of enthusiastic volunteers with him. The deeper they got into the darker regions of the rain forest, the less back up he had. Eventually all of his crew had abandoned him. Undeterred, Dr. Free carried on unsure if what he was about to find was man or beast. This could be the discovery of a lifetime, one that could make him rich and famous and win him many prestigious awards.

Dr. Free ventured through the muggy rain forest hoping that he wouldn't be bitten or attacked by any of the species that called The Amazon home. He didn't become world-famous by playing it safe and so he continued on. As he ventured deeper into the rain forest, it felt as though he was being watched. But by who or what? This was one of the few times Dr. Free thought about abandoning one of his missions. Though he couldn't see anything, he could sense something was getting closer and closer to him. What if he was the intended target of some predator? He decided to run but ended up tripping over a rock.

When he looked up, Dr. Free saw a giant red beast tearing through his knapsack. The creature seemed to be quite fascinated by the contents of the bag. "What is that thing?" Dr. Free wondered to himself. Is that a monster, an animal or a human? Maybe none of the above. He slowly got to his feet and started to tip toe away from the distracted beast. He began to lightly sprint leaving his bag behind. As he looked back he noticed the beast was not pursuing him. Relieved Dr. Free let down his guard and had run face first into another one of those big, red creatures. "Don't hurt me!" his screams echoed throughout the rain forest.

"Hurt you? Golly no. We need you to help us get home." "You can speak?" "Yes. Every language on Earth. We've been here ever since it was created" the red monster replied. "Home you said? Where is home?" "We live in the Earth's core. My brothers and I have been there for millions of years." "I didn't think any forms of life existed there?" "Just us. One day we thought we'd come up for a visit but we don't like it here." "Oh? Why not?" Dr. Free queried. "It's more peaceful down there." "How did you get here?" "We must've made a wrong turn at Albuquerque. We really want to go home. It's freezing out here." "Seriously?" a drenched Dr. Free asked.

"I'm Dr. Scott Free. I'm an anthropologist. I study various aspects of humans within past and present societies." "I'm Crimson and these are my brothers Cardinal and Elmo." "Elmo?" Dr. Free replied trying not to laugh. "It's a very common name in the Earth's core." "Are you gonna help us get back home?" Cardinal asked. "Uh, I'll see what I can do" Dr. Free responded. The three brothers looked as though they were about to cry. They weren't fearsome monsters. If anything, they were a group of overgrown children. Dr. Free wanted to get some photographic evidence of the trio but Elmo was holding onto his bag as if it were his blankey.

The rain forest, which is usually alive with the sounds of exotic birds, big cats, and other creatures was hauntingly silent. The three red beasts from the Earth's core were quite possibly the greatest discovery in the history of mankind. And yet Dr. Free didn't care about that anymore. He felt bad for the homesick brothers and wanted to help them. "So you don't remember how you got here at all? he inquired. "Well, uh,....." "Don't tell fibs. The sooner you tell me how you got here, the sooner I can help you get back to the Earth's core." "We, um, kinda ran away" Crimson admitted. "From who? From what? Something dangerous?" "Worse. Our Mom."

"We were going to take a volcano bath but we starting horsing around. We forgot to turn the lava off and it ended up spilling all over the house. Our Mom was so mad that she chased us around with a giant wooden spoon. That's why we decided to hide out here. But now we don't know how to get back" Crimson confessed. "I wish I could help but I don't know what to do" Dr. Free said to the whimpering beasts. "It's starting to rain. Let's look for cover and hopefully I'll come up with a solution by tomorrow morning. Are you guys hungry? I have some barbecue chips in my bag." "Barbecue chips? That's all we eat!"
