NO RECESS

One sunny day at school, Benjamin, a young white bunny, had to stay inside during recess. He's never been in trouble before, but Mr. Cameron was upset with his silence in class. When the teacher called on him, Benjamin just stayed silent. His facial expression would always droop down into a sad look.

Next is... Benjamin again? Come inside...

His teacher failed to understand and comprehend the fact that Benjamin had selective mutism. Benjamin was sent up to the office everyday and kept getting referrals. The referrals poisoned his record, destroying some of his future chances at college. He did everything he could do to stop it. He attempted talking, but no sound came out. He tried to bring doctors' notes in, his parents came in to talk to the teacher, everything. Even the authorities came to talk to them! Nothing would work.

Where's Benjamin? He missed all this week.

Benjamin's friends, Samuel the Vampire Finch and Cyrus the Ceratopsidae, grew tired of the teacher's games. The trio tried to talk to the teacher before, themselves. Mr. Cameron refused to listen to them, even though he held them to the highest respect. "Benjamin, aren't you done with this?" they would all ask. He would shake his head yes, and he'd wish to explain why he gave up trying, but he grew tired of writing everything, too. In fact, he was tired of going to school because the teacher wouldn't let him learn in class, either. Benjamin soon began to skip school because he couldn't take his teacher's torture.

The two friends came over to his house to both make sure he was okay and to come up with a plan. "How will this ever work?" Benjamin scribbled on a paper. "Mind over matter, kiddo. Trust us. You can do this." Samuel worked on helping Benjamin find his voice, while Cyrus helped him work out sentences and get comfortable saying words. This went on all night. After they had all slept, it was time to execute their plan.
