"Without mysteries, life would be very dull indeed. What would be left to strive for if everything were known?" Charles de Lint

Every Saturday morning, Ollie and his best friend Stan would fly their drones in a big open field. The boys liked to pretend that their drones were actually spacecrafts exploring the galaxy for new forms of life. They were convinced that there are aliens in outer space. Real ones that will visit the Earth one day either as friend or foe. But not everybody shared in their optimistic view about extraterrestrial life.

ARE WE ALONE?
Dr. Guy Sky is a Theoretical Physicist. A Theoretical Physicist is someone who someone that employs mathematical models and abstractions of physical objects and........let's just say he's really smart. Dr. Sky believed that extraterrestrial life did exist but not in this universe. He didn't think that man and alien would ever meet. And if they did, it would be light years from now, if Earth still existed.

Stan's Dad is an Aerospace Engineer who tweaked his son's drone so that it would be able to go higher and faster. Unfortunately for Stan, the drone was so powerful that when he took it out on that Saturday morning, it kept going up into the sky. It soared out of sight as it went through the clouds and into space. The drone crash landed on a tiny planet called Ogantu where a trio of curious onlookers gathered around the fallen machine. "It's perfect."

"Dude, what happened to your drone?" "I have no idea. I know my Dad gave it a little extra juice but this is ridiculous. I keep waiting for it to come down but it's been like half an hour already." "I'd like to stick around and wait for it to return but I have an assignment for school to work on. Maybe it ended up going all the way into outer space like we always dreamed about. That would be so cool." "Yeah, but I can't afford to lose another one. My Dad was pretty angry the last time I lost a drone."

"Where are we?" "I'm not sure but I think we're on Earth." "Earth? But I wanted to take a little cruise around the moon in this spaceship" Bell remarked. "I made some modulations to the spacecraft but it doesn't appear to be responding. It's as if some strange, powerful force is controlling where we go and how fast. Brace for impact!" Biv warned the others. The drone began to rapidly plummet towards the Earth below.

"Fascinating lecture Dr. Sky." "Oh, thanks Dr. Starr. Glad you enjoyed it." "The faculty of the university is getting together for dinner. Would you like to join us?" "No thanks Dr.Starr. I think I'm going to head home and start marking some test papers." "Can I give you a ride at least?" "That's okay. It's a nice day and I could use some fresh air." "I'll see you on Monday........unless you're abducted by aliens." "Very funny. Have a good night."

"Stan, why are you still here? It's 5 o'clock and our dinner is getting cold." "I kinda lost another drone." "Again?" "Those changes you made to it caused the drone to fly way up into the sky. It hasn't come down yet." "Looks like I got a little carried away. It's getting late. I think we've seen the last of that drone. Maybe it's time you take up a new hobby?" "Yeah, maybe. I'm going to try hitting the buttons one last time." "It won't make any difference. Who knows where that drone ended up?"

"Oh! Oh!"
Dr. Sky opened the front door to the house and walked in. During the entire walk home he kept hearing a humming sound but couldn't quite place it. As he prepared to go upstairs, the buzzing noise started to get louder and louder. "What is that blasted noise anyways?" an irritated Dr. Sky wondered. A drone came crashing through the wall of his house hitting him in the head. He was knocked out cold.

When he finally came to, Dr. Sky was greeted by three tiny orange aliens. "Is he still alive?" Bell asked. "I hope so" Biv responded. As Dr. Sky slowly began to regain his senses he was stunned to see the odd creatures that were staring back at him. "Greetings Earthling!" said D-Vo. "Who or what the heck are you?" "We are Bell, Biv, and D-Vo from the planet Ogantu. A strange spacecraft crashed on our planet so we decided to take it for a test drive" Bell began. "But we're not sure how we ended up here on Earth."

"This cannot be. Aliens do not exist in humanoid form. Where did you say you were from again?" "Ogantu. It's about 30 miles from the dark side of the moon. We've lived there for centuries without anyone knowing about us. We putter around outer space from time to time but we largely avoid any contact with other species. Something went wrong with that rocket ship we found and yada, yada, yada, here we are on Earth." "Very interesting. I'll make you a deal. You tell me all about your planet and I will fix your drone."
