To my Future Students

Ms.Dierolf, what is your philosophy?
Why thank you for asking, Wobbly, my philosophy goes all the way down to the core, Courism!

My philosophy as a teacher involves parts of perennialism, logic, romanticism, essentialism, and progressivism; I also minorly pull from metaphysics and axiology. I want to help my future students understand and value themselves as individuals. From perennialism, the idea of using rigor and challenging the children will help them use logic in their later years of life and enable them to succeed when they go to higher grades. Along with this, I want the children to understand and comprehend what I am teaching them, but I will always make sure each of my students are comfortable and personally okay.

With being a good teacher, there has to be a balance between being subject- and child-centered. I know that I will teach my students to the best of my ability; however, I am also aware that each student’s ability varies and will attend to each child’s needs. Overall, I want to keep my students up to date with current issues and help them understand the society that they live in; hopefully, I will be able to teach them individualism and not as much collectivism.
Zoinks! So cool! What about student goals?

Connect to real-world problems
They will be able to use current events to link the material I am teaching them to certain happenings in the world, not just the society they dwell in.
Understand material properly
The students will go home each day with a deep understanding of the material and before each day ends, they will go over the summary of the day to ensure their understanding. Confusion on a material is never accepted; I will continue to help them until they comprehend what is in front of them.

There has to be more!
Develop a strong self-esteem
They will learn how to believe in themselves and feel confident in what they do, but also be humble. Within developing their esteem, their ego will become more of a balance. My class will help them learn who they are.
Establish morals and mannerism
The students will be able to understand what is right and wrong and act upon what is right. They will also be able to use the correct manners towards other people; the golden rules: treat others the way you would like to be treated, hands to yourself, tell the truth, and model the good behavior that each one is proud of.

Learning something new each day
Every day, the students will go home with an understanding of a new topic. The material does not just have to do with what I taught them but also learning something new about a friend or learning if they like one subject more than the other. Their learning will far exceed my teachings.
Holy Guacamole! That was so cool; it blew me away all the way to here! Be careful with this next topic, Student Roles!

Behavior
They are expected to come to school and go throughout the day with respect to themselves and everyone around them. The students will come in class and listen to me when I am teaching them. The behavior I expect from them will be outlined the first day of class, “golden rules”.
Student contributes to the course content
They will engage in the activities that I provide and participate during class time; not only academically but socially. The students will take part in the classroom and help when it is needed, such as raising their hands and helping their peers.

Takes responsibility of their learning
If they are struggling, they should come to me and accept that they need help. They should do all of their homework and review the topics outside of the classroom. With the student goals I set, I want my students to be comfortable enough to come to me and ask for assistance.
My goodness, Ms.Dierolf, you did it again! I am learning so much, and if I may, you sound like one good teacher! Speaking of you, what are your roles as a teacher?

Observer
This role is one of the most important roles to me; I will have to learn the ways each of my students learn and make sure that they are okay. Part of my job is to observe and assess each situation and circumstance.
Tutor
Besides teaching them during class time, I also have the role of further intervention; such as after school activities and group review sessions when needed. To be a good teacher, I will need to accommodate each child and go to the top of my capabilities to help each child and ensure that they succeed.

Hmmm...There should be more for a teacher

I hoped you would say that! There are two more main roles! But I will stay here as I explain; it is a lot!

Do not leave me hanging; what are they?
Influencer
This is the main role that I will play. Each day, I have my students watching me so I have to play the role as the influencer. I have to model good behavior and morals to my students so they, hopefully, follow in my footsteps. I will also have to continue my role as an influencer outside of the school, because my role is to also be a good person, not only teacher.
Organizer
As a teacher, my job is to organize different activities during the school day and follow through with them. I need to create a smooth schedule each day for the students so they have a sense of security. I will coordinate group activities, create lesson plans, and develop interesting ways to present the information to my students.
Hello? Ms.Dierolf!! Over here, you still have so much to tell me, what about your character?

Oh yes, sorry! I was still thinking in my head what I am to do next! That's right, what is unique about me? Well...

Understanding
I will listen to my students and put into consideration what is going on in their personal life before make decisions. Even though some children will need more help than others, I will hold the same high expectations. If and when a child begins to show sluggish class orientation, I will help them as fast as possible.
Patient
When something happens in my classroom, I will proceed with caution and take time to resolve the situation. Being an early education teacher means that something will happen every day, if not every hour, and I am prepared to deal with the students. No one is perfect and I will always keep that in mind when handling each situation.
