The partition was not a good idea because people died, houses were burned down, and there was political unrest.
What was the partition?
The people that created the partition had good intentions. They wanted to divide territory equally between the Hindus and the Muslims. This would make it so the Muslims had a country to call home. They would split the countries Pakistan and India. The muslim's were trying to get out of India and move to Pakistan. (Doc V)
Houses
Police were suspected of helping with the burning down of houses. Sometimes entire neighborhoods would be burned to the ground. (Doc U)
Political Unrest
After college people joined the military. They had to go patrol the borders to make sure that no one illegally tried to cross. They sometimes had to manage violence in border towns and villages. (Doc V)
Was the partition a good idea?
The partition was not a good idea. Thousands of people died. The reality of the partition was there were hundred of people crammed onto train cars to cross the border, people walking everywhere, starvation, violence in the cities, etc. (Doc F) The humans that died during the rioting were cremated. If there was no wood available oil and kerosene would be used to burn the bodies. (Doc L)
Who was involved in the partition?
Both Indian's and Muslim's were involved in the Indian partition. That is why they were trying to split part of India into a new country called Pakistan.
