Brandon woke up in his bed, ready for the day.

Today was special because they were going to a play!

He gets up to pick out his favourite shirt, with purple and yellow stars.

Or maybe...he should pick the shirt with cars?

His mom is standing in the doorway, worried about her son’s conflict.

She can tell he wants to wear the purple shirt, so she says,

“Oh Brandon, the shirt with purple stars is my favourite! I hope it’s yours too! 

Brandon smiles and says “Thanks Mommy, all I have to get is my shoes.”

What a Panzy!! Only girls where purple!

Brandon skips to class, 

And that’s where he got into a big crash!

He ran into a boy in his class named Randy

Who yelled out, 

Brandon’s friend Suzy came up from behind, crying, “My mom says anyone can wear any colour, and to be who we are if we all want to be free!”

That is just nonsense.

I want to be free... be free to be me.

Everyone gets ready to watch the play, the sounds of the crowd go quiet.

The curtains open to reveal jumping, leaping, and twirling figures in the shadows.

Beautiful men and women in tutus dance under the light.

Brandon wants to dance too! 

At dinner, Brandon tell his mom and dad about the wonderful play and tells them that he wants to join his sister in ballet.

His Dad says simply, “boys don’t do ballet.”

“Oh but I saw them Dad, BOYS! In the ballet! They were jumping and leaping and twirling!” Brandon says with a big smile.

His Mom says “Of coarse you can dance. It’s a hard skill to learn, it will take a while!"
