"To jealousy, nothing is more frightful than laughter." - Francoise Sagan

The good citizens of Fordcastle, NY, have been gripped by fear during the past few weeks. A series of bombings across the city by a man simply known as Mr. Chaos has put everyone on edge. The local police department has been unable to find out anything about the mysterious Mr. Chaos or his motives. To date, he has only bombed empty buildings (abandoned warehouses, derelict houses, etc.). It appears as though his intention is to gain notoriety through his darkly mischievous actions. But why? What would motivate someone to take part in such a wicked game by playing with other's emotions like he has?

"Still no leads Detective Talbot?" "No Sarge. Mr. Chaos is practically a ghost. There is no rhyme nor reason for why he's bombing these buildings." "My fear is that he will begin to escalate and start hitting bigger targets." "I guess we'll just going to have to have a bigger police presence in the city." "We've done that Detective and it's not working. We need someone who thinks like Chaos. Someone who is a little bonkers but in a good way. He needs to be able to think like Chaos does and anticipate his every move." "You don't mean....." "Yes Detective. Get me Lollypop, Undercover Clown!"

"Hey boys and girls! That's it for this week's show. But I will see you all again here on, say it with me kiddies, 'Lollipop Lane!' Goodnight and sleep tight!" As Lollipop walked off the stage one of the producers shook his hand. "Great show as always Lolly." "We had a fantastic audience tonight." "You know you don't have to keep up that high-pitched voice all the time." "What do you mean?" Lollypop shrilly replied. "Uh, never mind. I know you like to unwind after the show but there's someone here that wants to see you." "Oooooo, I wonder who it is?" "He's in your dressing room. He says he's an old friend from your last job." "Golly gee! Who could it be?"

"Well, if isn't my old friend Detective Talbot. Put it there buddy!" Lollipop said as reached out his hand. BZZT! "Ow! Why'd you do that?" "It's a joy buzzer. It brings me joy! HA! HA!" "Ugh" Talbot snorted. "So, what brings you here to Lollipop Lane?" "I'm not sure if you've been keeping up with the news, but there's a mad bomber named Mr. Chaos on the loose. We haven't been able to track him down so Sarge told me to meet with you. Interested?" "Hey boys and girls, looks like I'm getting back into the dangerous undercover game. Yippee Skippy! Don't be scared, good ol' Lollipop can handle this." "Who are you talking to? I'm the only one here."

So who exactly is Lollypop the Clown? His name was Gideon Hopkins. He had been with the Fordcastle Police Department for 15 years. He was soon given the opportunity to go undercover to bust a circus diamond-smuggling ring. Gideon posed as a clown working at the circus and helped bring a world-wide criminal enterprise to justice. He had gotten so into character that he continued to wear the clown makeup and suit. After that he would only answer to the name "Lollypop." He's semi-retired now as he hosts a popular kids show on Saturday mornings. But anytime the police need him to go undercover there's nobody better.

"Lollipop you crazy guy! I could hear your shoes squeaking from down the hall. How is my favorite crime-fighting clown?" "I'm peachy keen but worried about this bomber you want me to catch." "Well, if anyone can catch him, it's you Lollipop." "Sorry to interrupt Sarge but why are we asking a guy dressed as a clown to go undercover? It's ridiculous." "I thought so too at first. But it's so incredibly absurd that it actually works. I gave up trying to make sense of it years ago. All I know is that this clown gets results." As the three men strategized, another officer began frantically banging on the door. "Sarge, you gotta see this!"

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am tonight's entertainment. Call me Mr. Chaos, the man who has put a fright into every man, woman, and child in this fair city. At first I had hoped to pique your curiosity but now I'm sure I have your full attention. To serve and protect? Bah! I wasted 20 years of my life doing that for you ungrateful citizens. And what did it get me? Nothing. I was never given any medals, the key to the city, or respect from my fellow officers. No, instead you celebrated some goofy clown. Well, now it's my turn to be in the spotlight. The explosions will continue and just wait till you see what I have in store for my grand finale!" The screen then went blank.

"Hmmm, I thought that voice sounded familiar. Mr. Chaos is my old partner, Detective Barnabas McCoy. He was a good cop who paid his dues and worked his way up to the rank of Detective. Barnabas always said that he didn't care about being famous. He only wanted to do his job, protect the citizens of Fordcastle. Eventually he started to resent me and without any notice, suddenly retired from the force. Nobody has seen or heard from him, until now." "McCoy was always such a boy scout. Always played by the rules. Disappointed to see things turn out this way. Alright Talbot, I want you and Lollipop working on this case 24/7." "What?" Talbot cried out.

Just as Talbot and Lollipop were leaving the police station, they heard a loud booming noise. They ran outside to find that Talbot's squad car had been blown up. "Looks like Chaos is onto us" Lollypop sighed. "This is going to be a tough case. He's a former cop and he knows how we think and act. We have to stop him before he makes more things go boom." Horns sounded, whistles were blown, and children cheered. "What the heck was that?" Talbot barked. "Hey boys and girls, Detective Talbot said the magic word of the day, BOOM!" Talbot rolled his eyes and grumbled to himself, "Just remember, two more weeks till vacation."

"Looks like we're going to have to take your car Lollipop. Where did you park?" "Right here Detective." "You have got to be kidding me. This is your car." "Don't worry, there is plenty of leg room on the passenger side." Much to his surprise, Talbot was able to fit in the comically undersized car. He kept his hat and sunglasses on hoping that nobody would recognize him. "This has got to be the most humiliating moment of my career" he uttered to himself. "We'll have to stop by the studio to get you some new clothes. You'll really look silly wearing that outfit." Talbot opened his mouth as he got ready to respond, but instead just shook his head in disbelief.

After trying on various outfits from Lollypop's Tickle Trunk, the clown finally found the right costume. "Check that" Talbot groaned. "This is the most humiliating moment of my career." "I think you look so much better Detective. Even your own family wouldn't recognize you." "I sure hope not." Lollipop's over-sized phone started to ring. It was the Sarge. "Lollipop, we just received a tip on the whereabouts of Mr. Chaos. One of our patrolmen thinks he saw him enter the old toy store on Feather Street." "You mean The Jolly Bear? Oh boy! Oh joy! Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh Joy!" "Oh brother!" Talbot groused.

The pair sped off towards the old toy store in Lollypop's clown car. "Okay Lollipop, don't rush inside. It could be a...........trap." Bursting with joy and wonder, Lollipop immediately started to play with some of the toys that still remained in the store. Talbot reluctantly followed behind. "Be careful Lollipop. Chaos may have set a trap for us." "Relax and have fun Talbot. Say 'hello' to Mr. Choo Choo, Rubber Ducky, and this ticking Teddy Bear." "Did you say ticking? It's a bomb! Quick Lollipop, drop the bear and let's get outta here!" "Oh dear! The doors are locked! Don't worry I have a plan old buddy, old pal, old friend of mine...." "Enough! Do something!"
