A long time ago, there was a kind hearted man named Niuliang. His parents died when he was young, and so lived with his step-brother and step-sister. He felt he was unwanted and harshly treated, and so left to make a his own home far off, his only company being an old ox.

牛亮的家有三个人，他,兄哥，兄姐。他们不喜欢牛亮。牛亮一天去开家。他和他的牛去。

Niuliang made a meager life for himself, living with his ox in a small, faraway cottage. One day, his ox began to speak to him. The ox claimed to be Taurus, cast down from the heavens for giving seeds to the humans against the Jade Emporer's will.

牛亮的牛一天告诉他它是金牛座。

The ox told Niuliang of a sacred pond nearby that the most beautiful goddess in the universe, Zhinu, stopped to bathe. The ox then told Niuliang that if he hid Zhinu's clothes when she went to bathe, she may marry him.

它告诉牛亮美奴儿来洗澡附近。他偷她的衣服。

Niuliang waited for Zhinu to return, then hid her clothes behind a bush while she bathed. When Niuliang went to return her clothes, they fell in love at first sight. They were later married, having twins named Brother Gold and Sister Jade. The Jade Empress however, did not approve of their marriage and forced Zhinu to return to the heavens.
