To my future pug, hopefully named Elmo.
Also, thanks to Shannon Kelley Pattee. Shelter Souls is so inspiring and everyone should read it.

Elmo's New Home
Elmo the pug watched the people walk into his shelter and wander around. A little blonde girl's eyes met his, and it was love at first sight. The next thing he knew, he was in a dog crate on the way to his new home. The car pulled up in front of a big house with a huge backyard. Elmo's tail wagged. He was here! The crate was carried inside, and when the door opened, Elmo ran to examine EVERYTHING!!! The bedrooms were nice, one had a fluffy blanket that he would use as a nap spot. A problem arose. Elmo ran to the door and barked. His family heard him and ran to open it. He went outside and lifted his leg. Ah... this feels good, he thought. The yard was beautiful. Perfect trees, a stream and pond,
and a few rocks. He rolled around in the grass and the little blonde girl came back and pet him. They went inside and gave him yummy kibble. Mmm! A dog bed had been set out for him, and he longingly thought of the fuzzy blanket but took the bed instead. The girl said "Goodnight, Elmo" and her parents echoed the words. Elmo was home. He became drowsy, and soon fell asleep. Then a big BOOM! woke him.
Chapter 2: The Thunderstorm
He jumped up and ran around the house. He came to the room with the blanket. A soft snoring came from the room. He barked, and it stopped. The door opened. "What do you want, Elmo?" It was the blonde girl. Another boom of thunder shook the house, and he whimpered. "Oh, you're afraid of the thunder," she said. "Mom and dad will kill me, but come on in." Elmo entered the room as the girl shut the door. She lay down on her bed and Elmo jumped onto her. "Good boy" she
said sleepily, and the snoring resumed, for both her and Elmo.
