EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
The nature of experiential learning is commonly understood but difficult to define. In its simplest form, experiential learning is often described as "learning through reflection on doing."
In 1984, Kolb conceptualized experiential learning as a 4-part cycle:

While Kolb is frequently cited, many other models exist but share similar qualities. From a review of seven models, Stehno (1986) grouped the components into four categories:
1. Action that creates an experience,
2. Reflection on the action and experience,
3. Abstractions drawn from reflection, and
4. Application of the abstraction to a new
experience or action.
To better align these categories with new insights and terminology from brain-based learning, the following principles will be adapted into our process:

Experience
Experience represents our perception of the world through real, virtual, and imaginary events. It can occur in authentic times and places or it can occur through modeling, simulation, or imagination. Guided by perceptions, recall of past events and procedures help select and implement appropriate actions and responses in a given situation.
