PARTS OF SPEECH
Parts of speech describe the categories that words are assigned to according to what grammatical or lexical function they have. These categories are examples of classroom meta-language.
Example: Noun, adjective, pronoun, verb, adverb, preposition, and conjunction are all examples of parts of speech.
NOUNS
Nouns are words that give a name to people, places, things, animals though they can also refer to ideas and other abstract objects.
Examples: Paola is wonderful.
The car is fast.
Chiquinquira is very beautiful.
PERSONAL PRONOUNS OR SUBJECT PRONOUNS
Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns. We often use them to avoid repeating the nouns that they refer to. Pronouns have different forms for the different ways we use them. ( I , you, he, she, it, we, you, they)
Examples: Mum's calling. She’s in Turkey.
You can see the sea from the top of that mountain.
POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS
We can use a possessive pronoun instead of a full noun phrase to avoid repeating words.
Examples:
Is that John's car? No, it's mine.
Those red gloves are yours; the blue ones are hers.
POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
We use possessive adjectives:
-to show something belongs to somebody
That's our house.
My car is very old.
-for relations and friends:
My mother is a doctor. How old is your sister?
-for parts of the body:
He's broken his arm.
She's washing her hair.
I need to clean my teeth.
