He went to school at Columbia University and Punahou School. Since Lorrin went to school on the mainland he got to see how they do things over there.

Since Lorrin was born on Hawaii, everything was new to him. Once he stepped off the ship to go off to college, he noticed how different everyone was dressed .

He wanted to learn all that he could while he was away. He would stay in the school library after school hours .

He studied many different subjects while at college. After all the things he found out then decided he was against the annexation of Hawaiian government.

On the day he left to go to the Hawaiian islands , he ran into a woman. He immediately realized that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.

He was too nervous to talk to her, so he stepped into line and boarded the ocean liner. Lorrin went onto the large boat and realized that the beautiful woman he saw would also be on on the ship.

Lorrin wished that he could talk to her. So, he tried to walk up to her, then the captain called everyone to their seats and he missed his chance again.

Lorrin saw that the woman he had seen was sitting in the seat next to him. He worked up the courage to finally talk to her. They talked for hours and he mentioned that he was going to Hawaii to fight against the annexation.

Harriet was intrigued, because she too had been studying Hawaii's government. She talked about how the annexation would be a good thing, bringing convenience and domestically to the Islands

By the end of the ride, he was in love. Lorrin was so in love with Harriet, she convinced him that the annexation was a good idea.

Lorrin and Harriet got off the ship together this time holding hands. When Lorrin got off the ship he was greeted with his mom's open hands reaching for a hug.
