The owner of a trademark or copyright registration for a fictional character can prevent others from using the character without permission. For example, Disney holds trademark and copyright registrations for Snow White, a Disney fairy tale character. So that means that Disney have the right to sue people because of the copyright. Disney’s media business depends on its intellectual property and, more specifically, the copyrights it holds in its well-known characters, movies , music, and the like of Disney . Disney has sued people for using the property of the Disney Characters. Disney will always be ready to sue people if needed.

 If a painter created an original oil painting of his family and included the Disney character Tinkerbell as a family member, his use of Tinkerbell would be fair use because of it's the fact that the artist considers Tinkerbell a member of his family. The use of Tinkerbell in the painting is fair use because he made the painting and Disney did not, and the painting could be called a derivative work.

Disney, of course, owns ABC. Back in March , ABC aired a two-hour movie Tilted: The Last Days of Michael Jackson. The Michael Jackson Estate was not happy for the fact they have not asked to use the content for the movie . They sued Disney for stealing property without permission from The Michael Jackson Estate.
