Copyright is a law that says that no one can use your work without permission, this book will teach you about copyright

One day Thea the dog was reading in the library, and she came across a really funny paragraph in a book. So she wrote it down in her notebook. She kept doing that with different books until her notebook was full of funny things.

Then when Thea was older she started thinking about writing a book, so she started rummaging through her old stuff and found the old notebook. She thought that she had made up all of the funny jokes, so she put them in her book.

She submitted it to a publisher and the publisher accused her of abusing copyright. Thea didn't know what that meant so she looked it up, and she found out that copyright allows you to publish something with full rights.

She also saw that all of the stuff from her book already had a copyright license on them. So she asked the publishers if she would have to start her whole book over, and they told her she could go to a public domain to find some jokes, and that that would be an example of fair use.
