A long time ago in a big forest full of small cold ponds and giant spruces, a small hard-working Beaver decided to build a dam. He knew his ancestors had been doing this for many generations, but he was not quite sure why. Nevertheless, the need to do so was overwhelming and he could not help himself any longer.
So he got started, first with small branches, then with bigger ones, then with logs, and than with bigger and bigger logs.

One sunny morning, the beaver was carrying a particularly heavy log. The Fox, which was passing by, offered to help him carry that log, but the Beaver respectfully declined the help.

One rainy afternoon, the beaver was carrying a big a very heavy log. The Moose, which was passing by, offered to help him, but the Beaver respectfully declined the help.

One peaceful evening, when the pink and purple colored sun was setting above the dam, the beaver was carrying a giant log with him, which would be the very last piece to his dam. The Bear which was passing by, offered to help him, but the Beaver respectfully declined the help.

The poor independant beaver really should have accepted the help though, because as he was balancing the log over his head, the log fell back on his slim, strong and beautiful tail and squashed it flat as easily as the lumberjacks do with mosquitoes.

The Beaver was hurt, but he is very strong and he recovered quickly. The very next day, it actually realized how useful its flat tail could be to swim around in the pond.
