"Perseverance is Stubborness with a Purpose." - Josh Shipp

Penny has a problem. She is going on vacation with her family but her mom says she can only take one stuffed animal with her. This is a big problem. She has 127 stuffed animals which she calls "stuffies" for short. How can she choose only one?
"I am sorry, Penny," said her mom as she tucked her into bed. "But there is only room for one stuffie on this trip."
"That is so unfair," cried Penny as she dove under the covers to hide.
"Aren't you going to kiss me goodnight?" her mom said softly.
"No," whimpered Penny from under the covers.
"I love you," her mom whispered. "Tomorrow morning you can tell me your choice.",
Penny lay in bed for a long time thinking about all her stuffies. She could narrow it down to her four favorites but that is as far as she could go. Boy lamby and girl lamby had been with her forever. She even took one of them to preschool with her everyday. Next is Cee Cee. She is a big white bear. Cee Cee makes her feel comfy when she sleeps under her. Finally there is Pinky who is almost three feet tall. Pinky has become her night time pillow. When she lays her head on Pinky she can go right to sleep.
"Maybe," thought Penny,"if I sleep on it ( not on Pinky but on the idea) I will come up with a solution."
But in the morning, when she woke up it looked like the solution had been made for her. Pinky had her suitcase on the floor and was rummaging through Penny's drawers looking for pajamas to take on the trip.
"What are you doing?" asked Penny.
"I am looking for pajamas to wear on the trip," smiled Pinky.
"You have to take other outfits on the trip too," said Penny.
"No," shouted Pinky as she began to put on a pair of pajamas. "If I have to wear other things, I won't go!"
"Pinky, you are being stubborn," cried Penny. "Stubborness can sometimes get in the way of doing something fun. I need you to LISTEN AND KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Can you do that for me?"
"I will try," said Pinky, "But you need to listen to my ideas too!"
"I like to wear my pajamas. They are warm and comfy," said Pinky.
"You will probably need a couple of pairs of pajamas for the trip but you will need other clothes for swimming and going out to dinner," explained Penny.
"I guess I wouldn't want to wear pajamas to go swimming. I would look pretty silly," laughed Pinky. "So can I wear pajamas sometimes ?"
"Yes," said Penny. "Let's pick out what we want to pack."
As they were finishing their packing Peny's mom called them for breakfast. Sitting down at the kitchen counter Penny asked, "What are we having for breakfast?"
"Cheerios with raspberries," her mother replied.
"Yummy!" shouted Penny. "I love raspberries."
"Yuck," screamed Pinky. "I hate Cheerios. They are bad for you. I want crepes."
"I am sorry, " replied Penny's mom. "I am all out of flour to make the crepes."
"Then I won't eat anything ," cried Pinky as she pounded her paw on the table.
"Pinky, let me read you the facts about cheerios. WILL YOU BE WILLING TO LISTEN TO THE FACTS AND MAKE A DECISION? "said Penny."Ok,"said Pinky.

Penny read the facts about Cheerios as Pinky listened attentively.
"I did not know that. I need to remind myself that I am not always right," commented Pinky. "I guess Cheerios aren't yucky after all! I would like a big bowl with raspberries on top, please."
While they were finishing their breakfast they began to talk about where they were going on their vacation. It had been a big secret so far.
"Where do you think we might go?" asked Penny's mom.
"I hope we are going to Hawaii or Germany," said Penny.
"Antartica is where I want to go," chimed in Pinky.
"That's not possible," laughed Penny's mom.
"I don't want to go any place else! I will just stay home with snowy. I will sleep in the crate with snowy until you come back!"
And with that, Pinky crawled into Snowy's crate and began to cry.
"I don't understand why we can't go to Antarctica?"
"IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO ASK A CLARIFYING QUESTION" said Penny's mom as she gently rubbed Pinky's back.
"Is it too far?" asked Pinky.
"Well, that is one problem. It is almost 9,000 miles away. Only about 1,000 people live in Antartica. There are no hotels where we could stay. During part of the year it is dark twenty hours a day and the temperature never gets above freezing. Does that sound like a place we could visit?"
Pinky peeked her head out of Snowy''s crate. "I guess it would not be a good place for a family vacation. I think we should go some place warmer."
" I think so too," shouted Penny.
"Then Hawaii it is," laughed Penny's mom. Let's get our suitcases and get in the car."
They all put their suitcases in the trunk of the car and climbed in the backseat for the ride to the airport.
"Ok, everyone buckle up," said Penny's dad.
"I don't want to put my seat belt on," said Jack. "It is too tight and I don't like it."
"Jack, you are going to make us late for our flight if you don't hurry up. Stop being so stubborn."
"I am sorry," said Jack. "I don't want to make us miss our flight. I know we are going to have a wonderful trip."
"Thank you for apologizing, Jack. THAT SHOWED THAT YOU CAN BE HUMBLE WHEN YOU ARE WRONG. That is a good trait to have. It is not easy to apologize when you are wrong."
Just then Pinky popped up with, "This is not the way to the airport. You are going the wrong way!".

"Yes, this is the way to LAX," said Peny's dad. "You have never been there before. We aren't going to John Wayne Airport this time. Mapquest is giving us directions to LAX."
"Oh," sighed Pinky. "I was wrong. We are going some place I have never been before."
"Way to go, Pinky! It is good to admit when you are wrong." shouted Penny.
Everyone was really excited when they arrived at the airport. As they were checking their bags, no one noticed that Pinky had climbed onto the conveyor belt that loaded luggage onto the plane.
"Hurry, Pinky. Jump off the conveyor belt before it loads you onto the plane with all the luggage," shouted Jack.
"That was fun ," laughed Pinky. "I want to do that again."
"Yeah! This is turning out to be the best trip ever," smiled Pinky.
But then the fun stopped. They had not bought a seat on the plane for Pinky. She was going to have to ride in the overhead bin for the entire 5 hour flight! Pinky started to cry. "I don't want to get in the overhead bin. I want to sit with you, Penny," cried Pinky. Pinky was about to throw a fit but then she remembered something Penny had told her about being stubborn. You need to explain why you don't want to do something.
"I am afraid of the dark and it will be dark in the overhead bin when it closes."
"Oh," said Penny . "I understand that. I don't like the dark either. I will see if my mom has a little flashlight in her purse."
Penny's mom looked through her purse and found a little flashlight and handed it to Pinky.
