Hi! I am Emily. Today I

am going to show you what the Industrial Revolution was and how

it affected my town.

This is what my town looked like before the Industrial Revolution. I live with my whole family in a small little barn on the top of a hill. My dad and uncle worked almost all day, except for a small lunch and dinner break. It was tough. We had almost nothing to eat or wear. Then one day, my dad told me that our town was changing and he was going to get a better job in the city.

A few days later, we sold our land

and went on a train into the city. When I looked out the window, I saw lots of new things I had never seen before. I saw big black buildings that were puffing out smoke. My dad said these are factories.

Once we got to the city, we moved into

what was called a slum. A slum is a like an apartment building with many one room apartments for a whole family to live in together. My father and uncle went off to work in a mine, and my mother, brother, and I went to work in a textile factory.
