What is Links?

You might Ask...
Links is a class where students get paired with other kids who might need a little extra help in a class and you get to help and be their friend!

How did Links help you?

Links helped me step out of my comfort zone. I grew as a person by being more aware of how other people's lives might be different from mine. I also got to try different teaching techniques to help my Links who sometimes learned differently than the way it was first taught. This proved to be hard but I got a perspective of how a teacher may feel.
What did Links teach you about yourself?

I learned that I didn't even realize people learned differently than I do. I am a perfectionist and like to write out all of the notes I'm given and focus more on the numbers, while other people may learn better with illustrations and by being talked through something instead. I also learned that I struggle with stepping back sometimes and letting people learn from themselves first instead of me automatically helping.
What did you learn about Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or Asperger Syndrome?
Autism is a disorder that we still don't really know how people get besides genes. Autism can make it hard to interact with people like you and me do. It can cause people to not make eye contact, have a hard time with noises, and not be able to read social cues such as sarcasm. Autism also has a spectrum so no one with Autism is exactly the same and can have very different sensitivities.
