I thought this day would never come!
Today I am going to be a big first grader.
My teacher sent me a letter over the
summer saying she was so excited to
meet me. I can't wait!

As I peered out the van window, I could
see the school getting closer and closer.

I grabbed my big-girl backpack and my
big-girl lunch. I waved goodbye to my
parents because kissing is too
"kindergartenish".

My mom rolled down the window and
shouted to me, "Break a leg, Lily!"
Why would I want to break a leg? I
would hate to go to the doctors and
get a cast.

My daddy winked at me and yelled,
"Knock 'em dead." I don't want to
hurt anybody. He is the one who always
told me to play nice.

When I finally found my classroom, my
teacher greeted me with a warm smile.
I found my seat and began to unpack my
backpack. From the front of the room,
my teacher called, "1..2..3..eyes on me."
Yuck! I can't take my eyes out of my
head.

I couldn't believe we had to do such big
math problems on the first day of school.
Mrs. Welcher came and helped me. She
told me to 'stick with it'. That didn't
seem like it would help.

We went to music class, too. I never
went to music in Kindergarten. I was
so excited! The music teacher led us
into her classroom and told us to make
a circle. How do you do that?

We sang a lot of fun songs in music but
we must have made our teacher upset.
She told us to 'zip it'! Ouch! Wouldn't
that hurt?

I was getting tired. Thankfully, we
went outside for recess. When the bell
rang for us to go back inside, our Mrs.
Welcher yelled, "Everyone line up on
the fence." What? I am terrified of
heights.
