Types of Chihuahuas:
The two official types of Chihuahuas include the long-haired and short-haired Chihuahua. At birth, both types of Chihuahuas are almost identical in appearance. It takes about three years until the difference becomes more apparent. The Chihuahua genetics tell us that when you breed two short-haired Chihuahuas you can have long-haired offspring.

Appearance of a Chihuahua:
The coat of the Chihuahua comes in a variety of colors, unlike most other dog breeds. Chihuahuas are not known for having a dominant coat color, but rather, each Chihuahua is unique in their appearance. These unique patterns and colors are not genetically marked.
A Chihuahua is usually between 6 to 9 inches but can grow up to 15 inches in length. Additionally, a healthy Chihuahua can weigh anywhere from 6 to 12 pounds.

Temperament of a Chihuahua
The temperament of a Chihuahua often depends on the education of its owner and the genetic temperament of the dog's parents and grandparents. Additionally, Chihuahuas are more likely to get along with their own breed as opposed to dogs of another breeds. Chihuahuas are also extremely loyal to their owner and will protect no matter the situation. However, when this behavior is not managed, the dog may become overprotective. Again, this depends on the genetic heritage.
