In a land far, far away, there lived a 

mountain. Now this wasn't just any kind 

of mountain. This was the tallest 

mountain in the world! His name was 

Everest, Mount Everest. But most of his 

friends just called him Mighty. 

Mighty stood way above everyone else 

and his friends were jealous. One day 

his friend, Makalu, asked, "How did you 

get to be so much taller than everyone else 

around here?" 

Mighty replied, "To know the answer to 

that, you have to understand how mountains 

are formed..."

So then, Mighty began to explain how 

all the mountains in his land were 

formed. 

"We all came from the same parents. Our 

parents are Indo and Eurasia. They are thin 

and flat, kind of like puzzle pieces. They 

are called tectonic plates.They fit together 

to make a huge piece of land."

Every mountain was listening very 

closely now as Mighty continued his 

story...

"One day our parents got very mad at each 

other. Because they were so mad, they 

crashed into each other!" 

No one could believe what they were 

hearing. They couldn't wait for Mighty to 

finish! 

"When they crashed into each other, the 

force was so strong that part of each parent 

crumpled up like paper. There were now big 

bumps on each parent. Neither one was happy 

about this... Not happy at all..."

No one knew what was going to happen 

next, so they just waited with 

excitement for Mighty to continue.

"Each parent thought that the bumps were 

the other parent's fault, so they just kept 

pushing into each other. The bumps got 

bigger and bigger. They reached high up 

into the sky!!!"
