Although the formation of mountains is a
long process, it is not a very difficult one.
Mountains are basically created by the
earth's plates. When two plates collide into
each other, the earth's crust is pushed in
an upward position, over time making a
mountain, but that is just the basics. Lets
go a little deeper into how mountains are
formed.

If you are unfamiliar with the subject, plates,
also known as tectonic plates are basically
pieces of rock found in the earth's crust. They
move around little by little. Until two tectonic
plates collide starting the process.

When the two tectonic plates collide that is when
different mountain formations can take place. Their
are five different kinds of mountains.
1.Fold Mountains
2.Fault-block Mountains
3.Dome Mountains
4.Volcanic Mountains &
5.Plateau Mountains

Fold Mountains
Some of the world’s largest mountain ranges are fold
mountains and are the ones you probably see the most.
They are formed when two plates collide head on, and
their edges crumbled.
Some fold mountains include:
The Himalayan Mountains
The Alps
The Andes &
The Rockies

Fault-block Mountains
Fault-block mountains form when faults or cracks in the earth's
crust force some materials or blocks of rock up and others down
making these mountains very steep and uneven.
Fault-Block Mountains can be found in Germany and North
America
