Once upon a time the king of the gods Jupiter and his son Mercury came down to Phyrgia in ancient Greece to see if people were still nice and welcoming.

The Gods arrived at a town called Tyana disguised as poor and homeless and asked the people there if they could spend the night. All of them refused.

But then they saw an old cottage at the end of town and decided to try one last time to see if anyone would welcome them.

Jupiter and Mercury knocked on the door and an old man and woman opened it to see the poor men. They invited them in and graciously made them feel at home.

The old man told the disguised gods that his name was Philemon and his wife was Baucis. They immediatly started to gather herbs from outside and some meat, put it in a pot to cook, and served the guests what little wine they had.

But something odd was going on. Whenever Philemon thought that surely the wine had run out, it would always refill itself. He began to wonder who the two men were.

Then Philemon whispered what he saw to his wife and suddenly they understood who the two men were. They fell to their knees and apologized for what little they had.

The old couple had an old goose and tried to catch it to serve to the now appeared gods but Jupiter said not to. He told them to come with him and Mercury to the top of a hill.
