This book is dedicated to my Granparents, Joe and Yvette Lestrat.
You gifted me a wonderful place to grow and learn as a child. Thank you for encouraging me to be myself and loving my poems and letters over the years.

Ruby Tuesday is excited! She gets to visit her Grandparents all by herself! The farm has cows and a dog. No goats, pigs or chickens... just cows and a dog. Ruby wished they had hens, hens lay eggs and hatch cute chicks.

Grandma and Grandpa are happy Ruby can come visit! Ruby wonders if they get bored without any kids to play with. Mommy says, No, they don't get bored and that’s funny!

Ruby likes to explore the green forest and play pretend. She pretends she's "Princess Penelope", and the critters are in HER Kingdom, which SHE is the ruler of. Ruby can be bossy in the forest, but NOT anywhere else Mommy says.

After playing Forest Princess, Ruby finds the yellow shed where the red bike is stored. She pretends the bike is her princess rocket, and Penelope can go fast like the wind with this special bike!

Ruby it's dinnertime! Her Grandma calls out, it's time to wash up and come in, she says. Ruby's glad it's dinnertime, because being a Farm Princess is so much work and now she's very hungry!

Grandma makes Ruby's favorite for dessert! Cookies with pink icing and sprinkles! Just one cookie Ruby, Grandma says. She wishes she could eat the whole plate, but she picks just one and the BIGGEST one of course! Ruby wonders if everyone has an awesome Grandma like she has. Grandma is the BEST!

Ruby's loves when the teeny tiny bird comes to visit in the window. Grandma says, "Come see the little Humming Bird!" Ruby wonders if the tiny bird knows how to hum and that's why he's called a humming bird.

Ruby plays in the yard, and Grandpa pulls up in his Big Red Tractor. Ruby! He calls out, I have a special surprise for you! A surprise, what is it Grandpa? Ruby asks, curiously. She wonders what could it possibly be?!

Grandpa holds out a big white EGG!! Is that a DINOSAUR EGG? Ruby asks, with wide eyes???!! Grandpa chuckles, This aint no dinosaur egg Ruby! This is a duck egg, he says. The Mama Duck flew the nest, and left this little guy behind. Now if you keep him safe and warm, he might just hatch. But remember Ruby, Ducks belong in the country.

I'm going to have a real pet DUCK?? This is the best surprise EVER, she says. She finds a basket, gathers some feathers, and makes a nice warm bed for her new egg pet. Ruby wonders what her turtle Spike at home will think of this pet.

The next day, when Ruby explores the forest... egg goes with her. When Ruby rides her bike, egg comes too. She takes egg for a ride in the red wagon. At bedtime Ruby tells egg a story about Princess Penelope. She's pretty sure egg likes it.

That night, the most amazing, wonderful thing happened! Ruby's egg finally HATCHED! And out popped a fuzzy, little baby duck!! Even Grandma was surprised!
