To my Children
Matthew 22: 37-39 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.
Always remember to love one another and to take care of each other.

to tell you a story about when
I learned about loving my neighbor.

Yesterday at school my class went outside to eat our lunches. The teacher made everyone sit at the table so that she could pass out everyone’s lunch boxes.

As we all prepared to eat our yummy lunches I noticed that Alex was standing quietly with his head down and he looked kind of sad.

I was not sure if I should ask Alex what was wrong because Alex can sometimes be really mean. I overheard the teacher talking to Alex and found out that he did not bring his lunch to school today.

Alex started crying because he had forgotten his lunch in the car.

When Ms. Brown walked away to call Alex’s mother I remembered what I learned in church and how God wants me to love others like he loves me.
I picked up my lunch box and walked over to Alex and sat down right next to him.

Hey Alex, would you like to share lunch with me?
Yes I would like to share with you. I didn't eat breakfast and I'm hungry
I gave Alex half of my sandwich and we shared my bag of chips. Another student named Kate came by.

Hey Alex I have an extra juice that you may have
