Love, Mrs. McCray

"Nooo! Captain Max, Noo!" Tears streamed down Marlene's face as the night sky lit up with a ball of fire, and the Hindenberg came crashing down.
Marlene's breath seem to get stuck in her throat and chest. She felt as if she couldn't move. Panic was over-taking her as she looked around, she saw nothing but flames.
What was really weird she heard no sound in the chaos, but a faint voice saying, "Marlene, Marlene, Mar-lene." As she continued to look around she saw nothing but, darkness.
Marlene...
Marlene....
Mar-Lene....
The voice got louder. Marlene began to shake uncontrollably, "Marlene wake up!!!" The voice commanded. Marlene woke out of her sleep, beads of sweat danced across her forehead. Her mother was shaking her by the shoulders. "Marlene, you were screaming no in your sleep. Are you okay?" her mother questioned.
Marlene was relieved it was just a very bad dream, but she still had a eerie feeling in the pit of her stomach.
"What's today?" she thought. It's Monday, May 3rd and Captain Max is going to fly from Germany to New York today.
Marlene's mom headed to leave from the bedroom, but she carried a worried look on her face, as she exited the room. Marlene sat at the edge of her twin bed, not able to shake the disturbing thought that something bad was going to happen.
"Breakfast is Ready!" Marlene's mother shouted from the kitchen. Marlene quickly hopped out of bed, changed into her school uniform, brushed her teeth, combed her hair, and dashed to the kitchen.
She quickly inhaled her Raspberry Quark pancake, gulped the glass of milk, scooped her satchel bag off the floor, and headed out the front door with a "Bye Mom!", over the shoulder.
As she walked to school, the image of an airship falling out the sky to the ground, kept reeling through her mind, making her feel sick to the stomach. " I must do something and talk to someone!" Marlene had seen a newspaper article last week, of how the new air ship had traveled successfully to places like: Brazil and the United States. So why was the thought of one nightmare hanging on, and impacting her very being.
Maybe, just maybe it had to do with Captain Max, her friendly neighbor, who would give her a Marpro Yum-Yum- a marshmallow candy cone- when she would deliver his daily paper to his porch, that was carelessly thrown by the paperboy.
Captain Max Pruss was so proud to be the Captain of the rigid airship called a Zeppelin. He would tell the neighborhood children about his amazing training flights and some of the transatlantic trips from Germany to North America, and Brazil. Marlene paused in her tracks, "That's it!" Marlene shouted. "I had that scary dream to warn the Cap," she stated as her A-Ha moment.
Instead of continuing to head off to school, she turned around and dashed back toward the Captain's home. She ran as fast as her legs could. She got to the white picket fence, pushed it open, and zoomed down the middle sidewalk, and banged on the door--repeatedly.
The door opened and there he was...Marlene's friendly neighbor, Captain Max Pruss, fully dressed in his Captain's uniform. "Marlene, What's the matter?" he questioned with concern written on his face. He closed the front door and they sat on the porch's top step, as Marlene shared with the Captain her very scary dream, that seemed so real.
After, Marlene fully told the story and repeated a few parts that Marlene felt were extremely important for him to know. Captain's concerned look start to fade. He gave his little neighbor some encouraging words to comfort her and patted her on top of the head. He looked down at his watch and told Marlene she needed to hurry off to school.
Captain hopped in his 1937 Opel Olympia and sped down the road. Marlene stood on the sidewalk and wave toward the vehicle headed in the opposite direction. Even though, Captain Pruss tried his best to provide the normal, It will be okay speeches: "I'm great at what I do" and "the airship is perfectly safe." Marlene was still worried and decided to go grab her bike from her front yard and follow him.
Pebbles of the rocky road made a popping sound, as Marlene's bicycle wheels rolled over the sediment. She snuck behind a Sessile Oak Tree, at the edge of a long driveway, that led to a giant warehouse looking building.
There were several people buzzing around and preparing the Zeppelin airship for it's flight that evening. Marlene watched the Captain exit his car and greet some other people wearing uniforms. They briefly chatted before walking off toward the airship. "How will I get to the Captain, to warn him again about the danger of this airship."
