It was a sunny evening. All the noises of the day could be heard. On the street, Man-man played with his friends. He had a super hero figure in his hand. "Up, Up and Away!" He yelled.
His mother leaned out the front door of their house. "Man-man, it is time to come inside. Bring your toys and put up your bike," She spoke. Man-man stopped and looked at his mother sadly. "No. I don't want to come inside yet," He pouted.
His mother spoke calmly as she stepped further outside, "Man-man, get inside." Man-man rolled his eyes, "Yes, ma'am. I’m coming." Man-man looked teary-eyed towards the figure in his hand saying, "I wish I was a superhero. I would fly up and up and away!"
The next day his mother woke him up saying, "Brookside Charter called to say there is no school today due to a big storm coming. So, no school for you. And, now you have a three day weekend." Man-man sat up quickly, "What, no school? Awww, my teacher Mrs. Fisher made me light leader and. Wait, no school mom? I’m happy now. Do you know why, mom?" Laughingly, his mother said, "Ok, Ok , tell me why you’re happy." Man-man leapt from the bed with such energy, that his mother stumbled to catch him. "NO SCHOOL MOM!" They both laughed. "Yes, Man-man, no school. So, what are you going to do now? It’s raining outside." Mom asked. Man-man ran to the window. He gazed at the rain as it fell and hit everything he could see. There was rain on the side walk. Rain on the cars. Rain on trees. Rain on the mailboxes. His eyes filled with tears. He walked slowly to his bed. As he sat, he could hear the thunder. Then a loud sound went "Craaaacckk" and "Boooomm" off in the distance.
Man-man ran to his mother. She hugged him while saying with a chuckle, "Boy, it's just thunder." Later, Man-man went to his mother’s office in the house. He saw her watching a lady on the television screen talking about creating a blanket. "Mom, are you learning to make something?" Man-man asked. “Why yes. Your grandmother made me a very special quilt and I would like to make you one. I want you to have it as a reminder that I love you very much," She stated lovingly. Man-man's gaze was locked in on the screen.

These are some old titles that are based on gender." Man-man looked at the screen. "I want to make something now. Do we have some material?" He questioned. Mom got up and went to a closet near the kitchen and pulled out a large box of different materials. Without speaking, she went into a bedroom and got a small box with the word “sewing kit” stamped on it. Man-man followed quietly. Back in the kitchen, mom opened the box. As she took a deep breath, she took out some thread and a thimble. She spoke as if she was a teacher instructing her class, "Ok, this is how you thread the needle." Man-man mimicked her movements as Mom showed him how to use the thimble and how to put a piece of cloth together. Man-man, spoke, "Ok, mom. Let me do it. I want to make me something!" As he reached for the sewing kit and grabbed some material, his mom questioned him, "Did you see how I threaded the nee..." Man-man yelled, "Yes, ma’am. Can I go, now?
To my room?" Mom smiled with amazement that he really wanted to sew. She handed everything to him and watched him exit the kitchen in a haste. Mom sat down on the kitchen stool and stared curiously at the television.
The rain and thunder came down in such a roar that it would have scared anyone that heard it. But, Man-Man was hard at work. He talked out loud to himself, " Yes, I am going to make the best cape ever!” He said with joy. He began to roll out the material. Some white. Some blue. Some was black. Man-Man ran out of the room to his mom's office. All the while, he mumbled like a mad scientist. He grabbed a black marker. As he darted back to his room, Mom smiled. Talking with the wit of a seasoned tailor Man-man spoke out, “ I’m going to make me a superhero cape. I want it to be long and have a hood. And, I can cover up in it. Yes, I am.”

Man-Man grabbed the white material and began to drawn and write something. He feverishly cut and sewed. He seemed to know what he wanted to create. He threaded the needle like a professional. He mumbled a few words here and there, "Just wait till they see me." and "The new Batman is here!" He continued to work. Slowing only to admire his work.

Two hours went by. Man-man went into the kitchen. He took out a plate from the cabinet. He took a spoon from the drawer and placed them on the counter. Mom walked in and stopped. Man-man seemed to not notice her as he made him a sandwich and drank his water. He mumbled about the size, color and usefulness of torpedoes and rockets in his cape. This continued until bedtime.
Early the next day, Man-Man came out of his room and headed to look for mom. She wasn't in the sitting room. Nor the garage. Nor the kitchen. He raced downstairs holding something magnificent. Inside the office he found mom. He ran towards her. “Mom, I finished my cape!” He yelled. As his mother turned to greet him, her facial expression went from happy to bewilderment. She looked at Man-Man, then back at the...the...thing he was holding. He began to explain his creation which looked like it was done with no thought as to what it was.
