
George Washington was born on February 22nd, 1732. He lived with his family on a farm in Virginia. Young George grew up to become a loved figure in America. He is often called the Father of our country.
George was an honest young man. One day, he chopped down his Father's cherry tree. When his Father asked him what happened, he answered, "I cannot tell a lie, I chopped down your cherry tree." His honesty was rewarded. He knew the value of telling the truth, and carried that with him.

Like his father, George became a farmer. He had 5 farms that he worked on everyday. As George grew up he fell in love with math and numbers. He began work as a surveyor, where he measured farms and calculated numbers.
Washington began serving in the military in 1753. He wanted to help protect his people and their land. He was sworn in as a major of militia.

Washingtons first task as major was in the French and Indian War. In 1753 he served as major for the British province of Virginia.
The Revolutionary War began in 1775. George Washington was promoted to Commander In Chief. He lead the army into battle at Yorktown, Virginia and won.
In 1887 a group of trustworthy men met to write the Constitution. George was invited to head the Constitutional Convention, because of his honesty and leadership.
Fun fact: We still use the Constitution today!
Washington's management during the Constitutional Convention was recognized. He was voted to be the FIRST President of the United States. He was voted unanimously, meaning no one voted against him!
George's wife, Martha, become the very first lady of our country. She was often called "Lady Washington."
