March 8th , 1875

Dear Diary ,

 After Reconstruction it has been hard 

times for me and my family.In the war my 

father died , he got shot right in the 

leg and bled to death.Since then Ma' has 

still been in a depression.So I , Sally 

has to run the house and take care of my 

5 siblings.It isn't easy as a 14 year 

old to take care of all these 

responsibilities.Well that's it for now 

, I will check in a couple of days.

March 10th,1875

Dear Diary,

 I haven't been able to write for a 

couple of days 'cuz I've been so 

busy.Everyday I have so many errands to 

run and do.Each and everyday Ma' gets 

better little by little.If we talk 

about father she breaks down and goes 

into depression.I really need her to 

get better 'cuz I don't want to take 

care of my siblings the rest of my 

life.Someday I would like to be a 

teacher and teach colored folks.My 

father was such a smart man that he 

taught me how to read and write.I sure 

do miss my father and his tender love.

March 11th,1875

Dear Diary,

 Today was a good day.I met a boy that 

I really liked named Charleston , only 

problem is is that he's WHITE ! Well I 

was in town and there he was , standing 

there with the sun glistening off of 

his red hair.When I dropped my pink 

handkerchief , he came right behind me 

and told me I dropped it.As I turned 

around and looked into his big 

beautiful blue eyes I thanked him.And 

from this day on I knew I was in Love.
