Bradley was terrified of the dark. It was his biggest fear. He could not sleep unless his nightlight was on. His parents, Sarah and John, wanted him to finally overcome his fear of the dark. They had tried to take away his nightlight many times, but every time they did it was a disaster. Bradley would come running into their room crying because he was so scared.

It was the beginning of the school year and he was in third grade. All of his friends at school could sleep just fine without a light, and that made Bradley upset. One day at school they made fun of him for his fear, so when he got home that day he decided to talk to his parents. He asked them if they could take the light out of his room. Both of them were shocked to hear Bradley say this because they had tried to do it so many times before. They then went into his room and took the light out. Bradley was nervous about bedtime but knew that he could overcome his fear.

Throughout supper, Bradley was thinking about what could happen that night. He had nightmares all of the time about monsters under his bed and in his closet. His parents then talked to him to make sure he was okay with sleeping in the dark. He said it would be fine so they stopped asking.

After supper, Bradley went into his room and got ready for bed. He decided to watch tv before going to bed to try and calm himself down. His parents then came into his room to say goodnight. They asked him once again if everything was alright. He said yes and then goodnight. They left the room and turned the light off.

Immediately Bradley got very scared. He began to hear things around his room. One thing he heard was something moving in his closet. Bradley thought it was a monster and began to cry. As he was crying he heard a thud under his bed. This made him cry even more. He looked up from the covers and saw a figure in the dark. Bradley then yelled for his parents and they immediately ran into his room. They turned on the light and asked what was wrong. He said there was something in his closet and under his bed. They looked in both places and saw nothing there. He then said there was a figure in the dark. Sarah turned off the light and what they saw made everyone laugh. His coat looked like a human in the dark.

Sarah took down the coat and put it in the closet. They then tried to see where the noises were coming from. Bradleys room was above the garage and John was in there earlier. John ran down to the garage and opened the garage door. That same noise began again and Bradley said that it was those he heard earlier. When John came back upstairs he was glad to hear that it was the noise he heard. This calmed down Bradley a lot.

They then tried to figure out what the noise from the closet was. All of a sudden the noise began again. Sarah went into the laundry room next door. The washing machine was on so she turned it off. The noise then stopped. They all laughed again and everything calmed down Bradley a lot. They asked if he was okay and he said yes.

When they left Bradley knew that there was nothing in his room. His fear of the dark began to go away and when he heard any noise he knew it was just things outside of this room. He closed his eyes and fell asleep. Throughout the night, he stayed asleep. When his parents checked on him it was just fine.
