Tim looks at the clock on his room's wall. It’s 8.30 in the morning. There is no school today, so he wants to go out and meet his best friend, Lucy. He texts her a message and they decide to meet in front of the bus stop. First, he brushes his teeth and combs his hair. Then he wears his blue trousers, a yellow sweater and a black coat because he thinks it’s too cold outside in the Northern Hemisphere in this month of the year. Next, he leaves home and walks to the bus stop. He is a bit early. Suddenly, he hears a voice.“Hey! Here I am,” shouts Lucy. Tim can’t believe his eyes because his best friend is wearing a T-shirt in the middle of the winter! “Why don’t you wear some thick clothes?” asks Tim. "Are you joking?" replies Lucy. "It's twenty-five degrees Celcius today!" says Lucy.

Tim feels really surprised. "We are in winter. It should have been cold," says Tim. "But it's not cold. Why is the weather hot in winter? We have to find it!" says Lucy. They decide to go to the library in the city centre. By the time they arrive at the library, they start doing research on climate. Tim has a look at the books in the library while Lucy is trying to find some Internet resources on the computer. They both shout at the same time, "I have found it." Now, they both feel anxious and scared. This problem must have been caused by climate change. According to the information they have found, huge disasters await the world if people don't prevent climate change. On the next day, Tim and Lucy go to school together and present the results of their research in the environmental club.

While Lucy and Tim are speaking everybody listens astonishingly. Peter, Mary, Susan and John, members of the club, feel Planet Earth life depends on them. They all agree something must be done and they decide to talk with their Science teacher. They propose developing a project to raise people's awareness about climate change and the distressful consequences in all living beings. Their teacher offers her help and they think about a name for the project. John suggests "Teens in Action" but they don't find it a good idea. Susan suddenly says " I have an idea: Let's Save the Earth". They look at each other and smile! Yes, great name. Mary excitedly says "We can promote a campaign to spread our message and use social networks. Our mote can be "Look around and Be a Caretaker of Earth".

Soon they take action and split up into teams dealing with the most urgent problems affecting the places nearby. They start campaigning around the city, wearing brand new bright green t-shirts, and doing little good actions like picking up litter from the parks, along the beach and the river promenade. They are also allowed to plant trees in the school garden. People notice them flying around in good mood and the nickname they get is "The Greenworld butterflies". They encourage each other "Let's show how to behave in a correct way". Working along for the Earth well-being makes them feel really happy and proud, emotions they want to share. They take photos while doing good and post them on social networks hoping other teens follow in their footsteps. After some weeks, they realize their followers have increased, so they go: " Oh goodness! We are popular! We can make the difference. Our project is going to change the world!"...But roses have thorns, you know...HATERS are lurking...

Our name started to be heard more and more on social media. The number of volunteers from every country who wanted to support our project was increasing. Tim, Lucy and their teammates were discussing and gathering information with people from different countries with whom they communicated. Their eyes were always on the World news back then. And incredible things were happening and happening at different points on Eart
Glaciers in Switzerland are breaking up and melting in massive masses. The fires that continued in the Amazon jungle were getting bigger and bigger. Brazil, USA and China could no longer cope with drought. Many events such as rising ocean and sea water levels and melting glaciers were worrisome in the World Countrie
Plants and animals were disappearing, their lineage was endangered, and human populations were now at serious risk. Climate change was now causing irreversible consequences.Everything was starting to disappear before our eyes. It was time to stop it now.s.h.

Tim, Lucy, and the rest of their teammates had started a spark and were thinking about what else they could do with the need to keep going.
Tim: “Friends, the increasing needs of human beings and their tendency to consume unconsciously and even selfishly without producing seems to be an obstacle. For this, our priority should be to raise awareness of people.” -Lucy: “How can we do that?”
Peter (excitedly): “Of course by not giving up.” -Mary: “Peter is telling the truth. Of course, we will encounter many obstacles. Our first rule is never to give up.”
Susan: “Then we will continue to grow in waves, starting from our immediate environment.”
Our next move will be local newspapers and televisions..
-Lucy: “I wish climate change was taught as a course in all world schools. I think social awareness education should start in the early days of school. ” -Tim: “Don't worry Lucy, I'm sure someday it will happen.” Immersed in research on his phone, Peter suddenly raises his head at his clubmates and calls out. -“I have a great idea.”

Peter got very excited about what he saw on the news. It was an article written by a girl who got so much attention from people around the World. Because she was also campaigning for a better a World. Peter: “We should get in touch with her. Maybe we can work together.” Everyone decided that it was a great idea and they tried to find more about her.
Her name was Sarah and she was very concerned about the global warming. 2 weeks later, they finally met at Sarah’s house. She and her parents were so welcoming and nice. They were journalists and they really wanted to help their child to raise awareness among the people.
Sarah was excited to express her thoughts. Occasionally he swallowed and started talking again. Her eyes were shining as she spoke.

Just like Sarah, Peter and his friends loved their interactions since all shared the same interest and concern in making the world a better place. Together they brainstormed so many ideas that they could hardly wait for youth-led initiatives. Sarah went on telling them about a documentary / report her parents had written on climate change, focusing on local changes. It included a relevant collection of photos highlighting the past and present that really impressed them and all at once, they claimed "It's time to act! Now! This is the only planet we've got!!! All together they decided to launch a campaign that would have a local impact. In many European countries, particularly around the Mediterranean, forest fires in Summer as well as floods in Winter are recurrent problems that often cause havoc, with destroyed forests, loss of biodiversity as well as human lives. More determined than ever, the following day they all gathered in the school library to discuss what to do next.

Anita Duarte's Team/ Agrupamento de Escolas Martinho Árias - Soure
The first step of the campaign was to invite an expert to come to school for a workshop on native forests and their benefits for local communities. He raised awareness that we have too many eucalyptus that so easily burn when we should have, for example, oak trees.
With the science teacher, they wrote an email for the local environmental authorities asking for support, especially with saplings, for a plantation campaign. Finally, the plantation day has come. They were super excited about it since so many locals had also embraced their initiative: parents, firemen, even the Mayor! It was a really an eventful day. Several actions were recorded and photographed, shared on social media, with a huge impact, especially because it took place in different schools. Shortly after, the involved schools were contacted to be awarded a prize that would take them all to the European Parliament!!! What joy! They would finally meet and exchange ideas and present their common goals...

Tim and Lucy were only able to get their reward with a teacher. The whole world was fighting the corona virus. With the award they received, their self-confidence increased, but they could not live their joy as they felt.
Managers , friends and families had to congratulate them online.
The world was alarming. Epidemic diseases started to appear . It was being fought with corona. Was there a connection between corona and climate change? It was necessary to investigate.
They started out as "Green Earth Butterflies" with the slogan "Look around and Be a Caretaker of the Earth". They decided to create attractive, colorful posters that explain what people can do to stop climate change and reduce global warming. Everyone had to reduce their carbon footprint.

Petra Turković's Team/ I. osnovna škola Bjelovar
At the same time, everyone had to stay safe! All around the world, schools were closed, only necessary shops and institutions were opened. People worked from home; train, bus and plane traffic was reduced, big factories were closed and all the Earth was quiet for a while. Everything seemed to stop.
And then, an amazing thing happened.
Scientists saw that the emission of CO2 was reduced during the "lock down". The Earth started to recover from the pollution and the damage people had put it through. Tim, Lucy and Peter were very happy.
"How amazing is our planet, how amazing is nature!" - they shouted happily.
But, soon they came across a scientific research on the negative effects of the "lock down" that made them worried. The amount of the household waste was increasing.

Maja Puc's Team/ I. osnovna škola Bjelovar
Our friends decided that it was time for another campaign. It had to be done online, from their homes so it had to be well organised and interesting for everyone to join and to take action.
Tim made a presentation and explained the scientific research on the increasing amount of household waste that made them worried. Lucy made a video with instructions and ideas how to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. Peter made beautiful posters with catchy slogans that encouraged readers to be responsible.
The Greenworld Butterflies proposed a game: a family who showed the evidence of recycling and reusing waste in their home would get a special prize.
Their teachers helped them and posted all the materials on the school web page and started a contest.

Martina BLAŽEVIĆ's Team/Osnovna škola Vladimir Nazor Virovitica
Many families applied and the competition had a global character . People around the world supported activities of the Greenworld Butterflies.
Unfortunately, the leader of one country didn't believe in global warming and all other things related to it. He thought the world united in order to ruin the economy of his state. That is why he organised a public rebellion against the Greenworld Butterflies and hacked its web page.
In a blink of an eye all posters, videos, posts, presentations and all other information about the competition and the campaign disappeared.
Tim, Lucy, Peter and everyone who participated in the project were heartbroken.
