This book is dedicated to my family who loves and supports me,
to my grandparents Ester and ✝ Francisco Lizama who taught me about my Chamorro culture,
and to my students at Tamuning Elementary School, who I hope to inspire and encourage to always keep writing their thoughts and sharing their stories.

My name is Mrs. Beverley Lizama-Merfalen. The members of my family are my husband, Mr. Paul Merfalen and my son, Avery. We are Chamorro. We speak English, but we know and understand some words in the Chamorro language.
Hello in Chamorro is Hafa Adai! Goodbye is Adios! To say Thank You in Chamorro, you say Si Yu'os Ma'ase. To say "My name is ________", you say Guahu si __________. Guahu si Mrs. Merfalen.
Guam is a United States Territory in the Micronesia. The latitude of Guam is 13 degrees North. The longitude of Guam is 144 degrees East. Guam has 19 villages. The capitol is Hagatna. The population is 167, 294.
The Guam flag is blue and red. In the middle of the flag is the Guam seal. In the Guam seal, there is the ocean, sand, coconut tree, and a sailboat. The ocean is blue. The sand is yellow. The coconut tree is brown and green. The mountain is brown.
In our Chamorro culture, we celebrate Holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, and birthdays with a family gathering. Everyone in the family brings a dish to be served at the gathering. Weddings are usually celebrated with a ceremony and a reception with the Bride and Groom's family and friends.
On Guam, each Catholic church in each of the villages have a fiesta once a year to celebrate the Patron Saint or Mary of their Church. The fiesta includes Chamorro food, music, and dancing.
