This autobiography tells the story of how I discovered my love for reading and literacy in a way that I never thought was possible.

"Wake up! Wake up!" my sister Kaylyn shouted at my bedside. "Today is the 2nd-grade book fair! We have to get to school!" Oh... the book fair. I didn't understand what was so exciting about it. Kaylyn loved to read and she had a very vivid imagination. Me? Not so much.

As a young second grader, my favorite subjects were Science and Social Studies. I was more interested in facts and learning about animals than fairytale stories. Because of this, I didn't really care to read books like my sister did.
I began to feel insecure because my Accelerated Reading (AR) scores were low and my aversion to reading was caused by my learning disability. I couldn't focus on literature if I wasn't interested in the material it was covering. I was frustrated.

When it was time for the Book Fair. I browsed around the library planning to just pick out a few cool toys and pencils. The librarian approached me and asked why I didn't have any books picked out, "after all, this is the Book Fair" she said with a giggle. I explained to her my interests and that I just really didn't like to read. After listening to me, she took my hand and led me to a table in the corner of the library.

The librarian showed me a table with the title "Nonfiction", and explained that I might be able to find something interesting here. My eyes lit up and I was filled with excitement. Finally! Books that I could read for AR that I actually liked! She reached onto the table and handed me a book titled 'The Magic School Bus: Food Chain Frenzy'. "I think you will enjoy this one," she said with a smile.

Until this moment, I had never been excited about reading. I picked out five books from the nonfiction table and I couldn't wait to start them.
