In the years when the War of Independence started, the idea of preparing a national anthem that would excite the soldiers in the front, raise their morale and strengthen their spiritual feelings came to the fore.Upon this, an award-winning competition was opened and the situation was announced to the whole country. 724 poems participated in the competition. After the evaluation commission examined all the poems, six poems were determined as candidates for the national anthem, and the others were eliminated. However, in the detailed analysis, it was decided that the six poems selected did not have the feature of being a national anthem.An offer was made to Mehmet AkifAn offer was made to Mehmet Akif Ersoy to write the national anthem. However, Akif wanted to participate when the contest was opened, but gave up on it because there was a cash prize on the end. Because he thought that money should not be taken for a national anthem written for the country. Mehmet Akif agreed to write the anthem after the acceptance of the condition to forgive the prize money as a charity and said, "Don't be afraid, the golden starboard floating in these dawn!" he began to write the National Anthem. It is even said that Akif, who wrote the poem in 48 hours at Taceddin Lodge in Ankara, ran out of paper while writing 10 continents and completed the poem by writing on the walls with ink. Akif submits the poem he wrote in these 48 hours to the necessary authorities without signature.
