Šiauliai's birth date is counted from the year 1236, when the place name 'Soule' was first mentioned in written sources - 'Eiliuota Livonia kronika'. It describes the Battle of the Sun, which took place in 1236. on September 22 in the land of the Sun near Šiauliai. This is a battle in which the Žemaitsi and Žimegali soldiers destroyed the Order of the Swordsmen. In September, on this occasion, Šiauliai Days are held in Šiauliai.
