In Ancient Rome one of the most popular events was chariot racing.The event took place at the Circus Maximus which was huge, It could seat over 270,000 people at a time! This event was so popular that it was also included in the ancient Olympic Games! The Chariots were light, and fragile, which was very dangerous because if the chariot were to break the driver was often entangled in the long reins and was dragged around the course multiple times. Chariots were drawn by two, four, or six horse teams.For each chariot, the normal number was four horses. We do hear of two-horse and even six-horse chariot racing on occasion, but that was quite rare. 

Chariot teams were often separated into colors that were red, white, blue, and green. Excitement  for the favorite color often led to arguments among fans

Chariot races were held more often that other events in ancient Rome , and was considered one of the favorite events with the royals!
