AN ENCHANTED CHRISTMAS
Once a upon a time there were two sisters. Their names were Doreen and Lisa. They were quite close in age and were the best of friends. Christmas was just around the corner and they were both very excited.
They put their heads together and were busy
whispering to each other as they were writing
their Santa Lists.

The girls just couldn't wait for Christmas. Each morning they took turns doing a countdown on the calendar in their room.
Finally, it was Christmas Eve. That morning Doreen and Lisa decorated the Christmas Tree. Daddy helped with the lights and Mummy put the star on the top. Later that afternoon the girls helped Mummy to make some Christmas cookies and decorate a gingerbread house.
As evening approached the girls got more and more excited." I don't think I can sleep tonight! " cried Lisa. "
"Nor, do I” agreed Doreen.
"You DO need to sleep for Santa to come" said Mummy firmly. As darkness fell the girls were yawning and it seemed as if they might doze off on the couch.
"Don't forget Santa's snack" reminded Daddy.
They kept a cookie and a glass of milk out for Santa and went upstairs to their room. Soon they were fast asleep.
In the morning after wishing each other "Happy Christmas" they ran downstairs very excited and hugged their parents.
"Happy Christmas Daddy"." Happy Christmas Mummy" cried the girls excitedly.
'Look Santa has eaten our cookies and drunk the milk" squealed Lisa in delight.
Within minutes they were busy opening their gifts. They received story books, colouring books, pretty dresses and lots of toys including a magic wand each. But the best gift of all was a magical unicorn.......
Doreen had a lovely purple unicorn which she named Violet. Lisa had a pink Unicorn which she named Pinkie. The girls discovered that the unicorns could both walk and sing. Much to her dismay Lisa discovered her unicorn couldn't fly like her sister's. Lisa eyes filled with tears.
Doreen kindly put her arm around her sister." Don't worry sweetie you can play with my unicorn whenever you like. Come, let's take our unicorns for a walk in the garden" she said comfortingly.
She turned towards her Mum and asked, "Mummy can we play in the garden?".
"As long as you are back in an hour. Please don't be late for breakfast" replied Mummy.
The girls ran into the garden. Lisa was still a bit tearful. "Maybe we can use our magic wands" said Doreen.
"Abracadabra, Alakazam May it come true our Christmas Dream. May we see a Fairy from Kingdoms afar -
prettily clad in red and green" she chanted.
Much to the amazement of both girls' magic sparkles shot out of Doreen's wand and there stood a fairy not much bigger than the girls. She wore a red and green dress.
"My name is Fairy Christmas. How can I help you?".
Lisa was still speechless.
"My little sister's unicorn can't fly like mine. Could you please make it to fly?" asked Doreen. Fairy Christmas
whispered a magic spell in Pinkie's ears.
Within minutes Pinkie was flying just like Violet.
Lisa was overjoyed.
"I have heard that you
are very obedient children. As a special
Christmas gift would you like to visit
Fairyland?" asked the Fairy.

"We would love to. But we need to be back by half past eight in time for breakfast" said Doreen and Lisa in unison.
"Sure" replied the Fairy. With a little bit of magic, she made the Unicorns big enough for the girls to climb on. They flew over the trees and were soon in Fairy Land.
Fairy Christmas introduced them to lots of fairies. Each of the four seasons had a fairy named after it. There were also fairies in charge of flowers, rain, the Sun, and Moon. The girls thought the Thunder Fairy looked scary. However she smiled at them and gave them a Christmas Cookie each.
Lisa glanced in wonder at the huge Christmas Tree. Doreen admired the moving reindeer.
Fairy Queen came along to say "hello".
One of the fairies also
taught them a Fairy Waltz.
Time flew by and soon it was time to
go home. Fairy Christmas
took the girls back on their
Unicorns and dropped them
safely in their back garden.

"I think this is the best Christmas we have ever had" said Lisa.
"Yes", Doreen agreed.
Both girls ran back into their house hoping that they were not late for breakfast.
Wouldn't you like a visit from a fairy on Christmas Day?
Doreen and Lisa were very excited. It was school holidays. Daddy had said that they were old enough to have a picnic in their back garden by themselves. Mummy packed a basket of yummy goodies.
"Don't forget your sunscreen" called out Daddy as they ran out of the back door.
"Don't worry Daddy, all done" replied Lisa.
" I love school holidays" said Lisa. Doreen nodded in agreement." Daddy and Mummy always think up such fun things" she said.
It was a lovely sunny day and a cool breeze was blowing. "What a lovely day for a picnic!" said Doreen.
The sky looks so blue and cloudless" said Lisa.
Lisa spread out the picnic mat. Doreen
unpacked the goodies. The girls had
brought their favourite dolls Betsy
and Tinkerbelle with them.
Just then a quizzical look appeared on
Lisa's face. What's up?" asked Doreen.

"I think I heard someone crying?".
sometimes run riot.
"Why are you crying" asked both girls
in unison.

"I have lost my magic wand. And today is an important day. It is the Fairy Queen's birthday".
Don't worry" said Doreen. "We will help you to find it. When was the last time you saw it?"
"I had it with me a few minutes ago" replied the Fairy. Just then Lisa remembered something. She ran over and lifted one end of their picnic mat." What are you doing Lisa?" asked her sister.
Lisa picked up a shiny stick from under the mat. "Is this your wand?", she asked turning towards the Fairy.
The fairy nodded in delight.
"My name is Fairy Tinsel. Both of you have been kind to me. As a reward you can come and visit the Fairy Queen. It is a very special treat".
The girls were delighted. "It is indeed a great honour to us" said Doreen.
The girls followed the Fairy to the old oak tree. The Fairy waved her wand and much to the amazement of the girls a door opened in the old oak tree. "Is this the entrance to Fairyland?" asked Lisa.
"Well this is one of them. There are many such entrances" replied the Fairy. "It is hidden to the mortal eye. We fairies don't mingle much with mortals as some of them can be evil. But the two of you are very kind."
The girls followed the Fairy and climbed up a tiny wooden staircase. "It is a bit like Alice in Wonderland" whispered Lisa to her sister. There were tiny windows. When the girls peeped out, they saw that they were in the clouds.
"Now it is like Jack and the Beanstalk" giggled Doreen. Soon they came to another oak door. The fairy waved her wand again.
The door opened. The girls held their breath in amazement.
In front of their eyes was the most beautiful place the girls had ever seen.
It was a huge tower in the sky with fairies
flying all around it. For a moment,
the girls were speechless. "Each year
on her birthday the Fairy Queen grants
the wish of two kind-hearted kids.
I think this year the two
of you deserve it."

Soon Fairy Tinsel flew off to fetch the Fairy Queen.
The Fairy Queen greeted the girls with a smile. She was wearing a pink sparkly dress and a silver tiara. Her face was round, and her eyes were twinkling. She had a very kind smile.
"Happy Birthday" said the girls in unison.
"Thank you, little angels. I hear you have been very kind to my little Tinsel" she said." I am going to grant you a wish". The girls looked at each other and smiled. They both knew what they wanted.
"We wish we could have a pet." said Doreen. "Yeah", Lisa seconded her sister.
The Fairy Queen waved her wand and pink sparkles flew out of her wand. "Your wish will be granted soon" she promised. The girls joined in the celebrations until it was time for the girls to go home. The Fairy Queen said a few magic words and the girls found themselves back in their own garden.
They were just in time to hear Daddy calling out to them.
That was quick for their wish to come true, wasn't it?
Doreen and Lisa were full of beans. It was the weekend. "My teacher always greets us with Happy Friday!! on a Friday" said Doreen.
"Weekends are always so cool" agreed Lisa.
Mummy and Daddy had said that they could have a pyjama party that night.
"Hope we don’t oversleep” said Lisa doubtfully.
"Don't worry" assured Doreen." I have a biological clock".
"Girls." called Mummy. " Would you like to help me to make some yummy snacks for your Party?".
"Yes Mummy" replied both girls and ran into the kitchen to help.
They were all busy cooking when Daddy came back from work.
They were all busy cooking when
Daddy came back from work.
"Mmmmm....I can smell some
yummy food. Thanks, girls,
for making such yummy food
for me"

"It is for our pyjama party tonight Daddy" said Lisa indignantly.
"That's a bit sad that I can't join the pyjama party" joked Daddy.
"This time it is just us. Maybe next time you and Mummy can join" said Doreen.
"Enough chatting girls. You had both better get to bed quickly and get some sleep before your party. Otherwise you will be too tired" said Mummy wisely.
Daddy helped them to put up a banner. He then read them a story and by eight o' clock both girls were in bed.
"Hope they wake up on time. Otherwise they will be so disappointed." said Mummy.
"I know they were planning to wake up at midnight. Maybe we can stay awake and make some noise that is bound to wake them up." said Daddy.
Just before midnight Daddy and Mummy heard the girls hurry downstairs.
Daddy and Mummy knew the girls wanted to be alone. They quickly went to their room and pretended to be asleep.
The girls hurried downstairs and collected the picnic basket they had packed with Mummy's help. It was quite heavy. But they managed to carry it safely up the stairs.
The girls were munching into their sandwiches, scones and sausage rolls. "I wonder why food tastes so much nicer at night" pondered Doreen aloud.
"Maybe there is some magic in the air which makes it yummy. Let us check it out" said Lisa. She picked up her magic wand which was lying on her bedside table and waved it in the air and chanted "Abracadabra", "Alakazam" - May our little Fairy Friends we'll see".
Obviously, Lisa wasn't expecting her magic to work. When she saw the magic sparkles spring out of her wand the poor girl got such a shock! The sandwich she was holding fell out of her hand.
They both gazed in wonder at the bright silvery sparkles. Amid the sparkles stood a pretty fairy who was dressed in a beautiful shade of orange and carrying a lantern.
The girls were speechless. Moments later Doreen found her voice.
"Hello" she said. "I am Doreen, and this is my little sister Lisa".
"I am Fairy Moonlight. I have come to grant you a midnight wish." "I wish our dollies could come alive for a short time" said Lisa. "Me too" said Doreen.
The Fairy waved her wand. Lo and behold the dollies started jumping down from the girls bunk beds one by one. The dolls on Doreen's top bunk climbed down the ladder. It looked so funny that Lisa giggled.
There was Betsy, Tinkerbelle, Ginger, Judy, Barbie, Chrissie, Janita & Debbie.
The girls watched in wonder and
after a while started hugging their dollies
one by one.
"A word of caution" said the Fairy,"
This magic will end when the
clock strikes two.
Please put your dolls back on
the bed before the clock finishes
striking. Otherwise they
will magically disappear,
and you will need very strong magic to bring them back.

Enjoy yourselves” she said with a smile before disappearing into the moonlit night. Betsy and Tinkerbelle could even speak.
The girls looked at the time. It was one o'clock. "We have almost an hour to play with them" said Doreen.
"Oh goodie" nodded Lisa. "We just need to watch the time. Otherwise we might lose our dolls."
The girls enjoyed playing snap, bingo and snakes and ladders with their dolls. They even fed some of the leftover food to their dolls. They were so engrossed in playing that they forgot to watch the time.
But luckily Lisa's sharp ears heard the clock in the hallway chime. With lightning speed, she started throwing all the dolls onto their beds helter-skelter. Soon Doreen joined in. Just as the clocked finished chiming all the dolls were safely on the bed.
Whoosh... said Doreen. "That was close".
The girls were exhausted after their little midnight adventure. They packed everything away as fast as they could and fell into a deep slumber. Do you think they would have dreamed of magic and fairies?
It was school holidays again. Doreen and Lisa were in high spirits. They were going on a holiday.! To them a proper holiday was going away for a couple of nights, not just one night!!
"It is going to be a proper holiday this time" cried Lisa.
"I know" assented Doreen." I wonder where we are going to?"
"I think Daddy and Mummy are keeping it as a surprise. I quite like it. It makes it more exciting." said Lisa. Her sister nodded.
Just then Daddy walked in with buckets and spades. Lisa screeched in excitement.
"Are we going to a beach?" she asked.
"It is a bit of a long drive. You might see a beach on the way and want to play there" replied Daddy.
Mummy packed the suitcase with clothes and essentials. "At what time are we leaving tomorrow morning?" asked Mummy.
"Just after breakfast" replied Daddy.
That night the girls were so excited that they could barely sleep. At about ten o'clock Lisa managed to fall asleep. Doreen was still tossing and turning.
"You need to fall asleep darling" said Mummy firmly. "Otherwise you might not wake up on time. Let me sing to you." Soon Doreen was fast asleep.
Despite falling asleep quite late both girls were up at the crack of dawn.
After breakfast the family set out on their holiday.
