The townfolk think of Chillingworth as a good
kind of leech as in the doctor of the time who
used leeches to let blood out and cure the
patients. Chillingworth was seen as a healer.

Because you are the man adulterer!Roger Chillingworth believes that Dimmesdale
was the man who had adulterated relations
with Hester.
Chillingworth moves in with Dimmesdale for the
purpose of Dimmesdale living alone. Chillingworth
really just wants to find out if the man who slept
with his wife is Dimmesdale or not

Chillingworth is a hero!
That isn't what I hear!People begin to question why Chillingworth is
really hear and rumors spread about his origin.
People say that I look evil! Do I?
Just a little bit.Chillingworth's face begins to look evil and the
interpretation of leech changes to him being a
bloodseeking creature. They also think that he
is the devil here to wage war for Dimmesdale's
soul.
