To my brother who is a strong survivor. I'm thankful that you are here today.

Tobi is an 8-year-old boy who now lives in Japan. He and his family recently moved to Japan from San Francisco.

Tobi's mom passed away due to an illness soon after they moved, so now he lives alone with his dad.

Tobi is afraid that he doesn't fit in. He's still adjusting to living in Japan. He's still learning Japanese and he looks different than everyone else.

Ever since his mother passed away he hasn't smiled. He doesn't anticipate the future, he's scared of it. He's afraid of starting school in Japan, especially without his mom.

Tobi arrives at school and is already bringing himself down. He doesn't make eye contact with anyone and is zoning out when the teacher is speaking.
The teacher asks Tobi to introduce himself to the class. Tobi was so nervous and anxious, he began to cry and the teacher let him go to the nurse's office.

Tobi's dad picks him up and asks him, "What's wrong Tobi?"
Tobi sadly says, "I hate new school and I hate living here!"
"It'll take some time to adjust, don't worry buddy," says his father.
"I don't want to adjust!" screamed Tobi.

Then Tobi sadly said, "I miss mom," as he began to cry.
You could hear the pain in his voice as his dad says, "Me too...me too."
