recently I looked back at some elementary school journals
and remembered how much I loved my fourth grade teacher,
Miss Bradley. I decided to write a short story based on those
journal entries to show the world just how great of a teacher
Lauren Bradley was.

Today was the first day of school, and I got to
meet my teacher, Miss Bradley! She is so nice.
We spent most of the day playing get-to-know-
you games, and at the end of the day she told
us about her life. She told us about what she
was like when she was in fourth grade and the
lessons she has learned throughout the years.
Every day for the first month of school, a
student in our class is going to tell his/her
story. I cannot wait to get to know my
classmates!

Today Miss Bradley gave a lesson about the
book The Westing Game. She really knew what
she was talking about because she took a class
called Children's Literature in college. In that
class, Ellen Raskin, the author of The Westing
Game, was a guest lecturer. Miss Bradley
definitely knew the content of that book and
what we would get out of it as fourth graders.

My new favorite
book thanks to
Miss Bradley!

I feel like Miss Bradley is always happy. I did
not think it was humanly possible to always be
happy, but she seems to prove that it is! She is
such a great teacher and can always help me
when I do not understand the topic. For
example, I was really struggling with my times
tables, but she tutored me for thirty minutes
after school twice a week. Now I understand!

I know them now!

My favorite thing about Miss Bradley is that
she teaches the lesson and then gives us an
assignment on which to work. Then she walks
around to each student individually and asks if
he/she has questions. If someone does, she
does her best to explain it in a way that he/she
would understand. One time she related a
topic to my friend Tim's Chinese culture. He
then understood the point of the lesson.

Miss Bradley related a class topic to the Great
Wall of China to help my friend Tim.

This week has been very rough for me
emotionally. My best friend moved to a new
city on Saturday, and my grandmother died on
Wednesday. I miss them both so incredibly
much, and I have not been able to turn in my
school assignments on time. Miss Bradley
noticed I was having a rough time, and she
asked me to see her during recess. I told her
all that was happening, and we cried together.
She then gave me extensions on all my
assignments. I am very thankful she feels my
emotions.

What I was like
before I talked to
Miss Bradley
What I was like
after I talked
to her

Yesterday Miss Bradley messed up. Several
people in the class were talking during a
lesson, even after she told them to be quiet.
After about three requests, she started yelling
and said that they were not respecting her
authority. The episode scared the rest of the
class. Today she apologized for yelling and told
us that she loved us but that we really need to
listen to what she says. I respect her so much.

Miss Bradley is so cool. Today she told us
about how she went to five different teaching
conferences over winter break so that she
could learn how to teach us better. I want to
continue learning throughout my life, just as
she is.
