In this book you are going to learn about the wonderful life of a
panda. First we’ll discuss where Pandas live in the pretty forests of
China. Next we'll discuss fun activities that pandas enjoy. Then,we'll
discuss the yummy [well not so yummy for humans] food. Finally,
we'll discuss the life cycle of a panda.

Pandas live in the mountains of western China usually in bamboo forests.
Most wild pandas live in the Qinling and Minshan Mountains. The Qinling
Mountains in the eastern province of Shaanxi separates northern and
southern China in regards to geography and weather.
The Minshan Mountains are the biggest panda habitat in China with the
most plentiful biodiversity. The Minshan mountain habitat reaches across
from northwest to southeast. It divides the two main river basins of Sichuan. It
is home to more than 600 pandas.

Pandas are curious and highly active, especially in their early years.
Mom pandas and their cubs enjoy playing together. They have fun by
rolling and wrestling. Pandas also play with their food. Plus, pandas
love playing with the snow for their winter activities.

What do pandas eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner? BAMBOO!
For every meal of the day, including snacks, pandas eat the leaves, stems, and
shoots of many varieties of bamboo.
Pandas are 99% vegetarian and only 1% of their diet is made up of other foods.
Pandas sometimes eat pikas and other small rodents.

A newborn panda cub is about the size of a stick of butter. Pandas
stay with their moms for the first few months of their lives. Most
pandas leave their moms around 18 months.
The moms can give birth to up to three cubs at a time. In the wild
usually only one cub will survive. The mom chooses the strongest out
of the three and the other two are abandoned to die.
A panda lives up to 20 years in the wild.

Pandas have been endangered since 1990. According to experts, there
are around 2000 pandas left in the wild.
Giant pandas are good at climbing.
Pandas have black and white coats with big black patches around their
eyes. The eye spots of a young panda cub are the shape of a circle but
as the cub gets older, the circles turn into a teardrop shape.
