Kairoo hopped down from the rock and was silent. He stared forward, waiting for a sign of movement. Just a second before, a large bison had been bounding through the snow. Now, all was still. Kairoo the wolf looked closely. The bison knew he was there. But it was no match for Kairoo. Kairoo leaped forward, charging into the snow where it thought the bison was. A large animal reared up from behind a rock, and began running through the snow. Kairoo and his wolf pack surrounded the bison, and soon, they were feasting.
Kairoo and his wolf pack lay down to rest. But Kairoo didn't go to sleep. He lay awake, watching. Soon, another bison came along. One single bison had not been enough to feed the whole pack, and the cubs. Kairoo howled and woke the pack. They then set out after the bison, waiting and hiding. Kairoo and his pack were waiting for the bison to go to his own pack. Once the bison had returned home, the wolves began surrounding them. And in a few minutes, once again, they were feasting. They brought home a two bison legs to feed the cubs.
Kairoo and his pack barked and howled to each other, happy that they had succeeded in hunting that day. Then, the wolves were able to take a good rest. But some of them were not ready to nap. Some of them wanted to play fight. Kairoo and another wolf started play fighting. Kairoo dodged a swipe, and then tackled the wolf, his claw at the wolf's throat. The other wolves who were restless barked and chattered, praising Kairoo for winning. The other wolf growled but soon joined in the happy yips.
Kairoo and his pack were not ready to go to bed once it was night. They set off to enjoy the thrill of a hunt once again. This time, they hoped to find rabbits. Rabbits were delicious.
Kairoo and his pack ran across the snow, the moon shining and guiding them. They barked and yipped to one another. Soon, they caught up to a rabbit. It was easy for them to catch it, and once they had done so, they praised each other with more yaps. Then, they took it back to their home to save for later. They still wanted to catch another rabbit, though.
The wolves were enjoying running through the night when they finally came to another rabbit with brown fur. The wolves quickly caught it. Kairoo gave it a bite and the rabbit stood still. It flopped over, limp. The wolves yipped and chattered to one another, and they shared this rabbit right there and then. Kairoo howled to tell the wolves that the moon had risen to it's full height. It was time to move on.
