Rosa is a little girl with a big imagination. She loves to do anything that involves art. Her favorite thing is painting, and that's why she's so excited that her Nonni and Poppi are coming to visit today! Nonni always loves to do fun arts and crafts with her. Today they are going to make something very special.

After Nonni arrives, they go outside with her big craft bag and sit at the picnic table. Nonni explains that her bag is quite full of rocks!! Rosa is puzzled at first until Nonni says that they are going to create their very own pets. Rosa has never done anything like this before so she is excited to get started.

After talking about what kinds of pets they could make and looking through a picture book, Rosa decided on the perfect pet. A ladybug! She chose this because it involves some of her favorite things- flying around to different places and the color red. She also found them very interesting to watch.

So, she carefully chose the perfect rock, got out her paints and set to work. They worked together all afternoon until her pet was finished. It was so beautiful it almost looked real! Like it could just fly right out of her hand. When it was time for Nonni and Poppi to leave it was almost nighttime. Rosa wanted to take her new pet to bed with her. Nonni said it would give her sweet dreams.

Rosa found the perfect spot for her ladybug pet. Right next to her pillow. She decided to name her Ruby. As she was falling asleep, she began to imagine all of the amazing places she could see if she could fly. Then, before she knew it, Ruby was taking her up and away like magic!

Together, they flew through the night sky. Rosa could see and feel all of the things that Ruby could. Flowers and trees and the stars all shining in the moonlight. She could see all the houses and the town where she lived. Everything looked so big! The night air was cool and soft as they glided past all the familiar places. 

Flying with Ruby was the most amazing journey Rosa had ever been on! She wondered if she was just dreaming but she didn't care. She was having too much fun to worry. Being with Ruby she wasn't even scared to fly. They were both so small they could fit on a blade of grass or a beautiful flower. Rosa had never seen such things so closly before.

The night was alive with sounds of all the creatures. The buzzing and humming of different insects and the hooting of the great gray owl. With Ruby, Rosa knew every animal by name, every flower, and every butterfly resting inside them. All with amazing colors.
