Ava was an 8-year-old girl who never listened to her parents. At school, she was never kind to her classmates and did not care about other people's feelings. Because of this, Ava did not have many friends, and her friend group broke apart.
Her mom and dad found a T.V. show called Adventures With Grandma Wong to try to teach Ava about kindness. It was a good thing Ava loved watching Adventures With Grandma Wong because of all the different places Grandma Wong went to. So, her mom and dad were excited to see some changes in Ava after watching Grandma Wong's show.

Today, while Ava was watching T.V., something was different. "Ava, repeat after me," Grandma Wong called out Ava's name. Ava was surprised that Grandma Wong knew her name. She felt like she was in her favorite T.V. show! When Grandma Wong asked her to repeat after her, Ava did so excitedly. She felt like she was part of an exciting adventure.
"I wish to learn more," announced Grandma Wong.
"I wish to learn more," repeated Ava.
Suddenly, Ava felt dizzy, swirly, and unusual. The sick feeling in Ava's stomach grew stronger as she blanked out.

I wish to learn more.
I wish to learn more.
It became bright when Ava woke up and she felt a tap on her shoulder. Ava turned around and saw an old lady.
Something about her looked very similar, like someone she had seen daily. She was in Adventures with Grandma Wong.
"What am I doing here, Grandma Wong?" asked Ava.
"I am here to teach you about being kind because I heard some stories that you are not very nice to your friends at school," replied Grandma Wong.
"Oh no, am I in trouble, Grandma Wong?" Ava was scared.

Where am I?

Who is that?
This is Buddha.
"Let me take you on an adventure," Grandma Wong said, smiling. Suddenly, they were in a different place. They were in a temple with a beautiful statue behind them.
"What is that?" asked Ava.
"Do you mean who is that?" Grandma Wong pointed at the statue behind them. "Buddha is a teacher of Buddhism and teaches us how to be kind and happy. He teaches us that life is hard and wanting too much can make us sad, but learning things can make us happy" (PBS).
"Buddha is a teacher?" replied Ava.
"That is right! In this religion, karma means being kind brings good things, and being mean brings bad things. Being good also helps you have a happier life."
"Is this why I do not have many friends? Because I am not good, so I do not get good things?" Ava asked Grandma Wong.
"That may be the reason. When you get home, let's see what would happen if you were more kind to your classmates. But we have more things to learn," Grandma Wong replied.
Ava and Grandma walked outside and saw something interesting. The temple suddenly disappeared.

"Crosses?" Ava asked.
In front of Ava and Grandma Wong, were three tall crosses in the grass. Ava knew she was going to learn something new.
"Yes, crosses. Crosses symbolize Christianity. Christianity is another religion that I will be telling you about," Grandma Wong taught. Ava was interested and wanted to know more.
"Christianity started with Jesus. People think Jesus is God's son. He taught us about love and kindness," Grandma Wong explained. "After Jesus was no longer around, his friends told everyone about him and started the Christian Church" (United Religions Initiative).
Ava listened carefully to Grandma Wong's words. "Christians believe in Jesus and that he helped them be good (United Religions Initiative). Christians pray to Jesus because he listens to them and helps them with their lives," Grandma explained.
"When I get home, I am going to try to be kind like Buddha teaches, pray to Jesus for forgiveness, and hope that my old friends will forgive me," Ava said, excited to go home and make things right.
"That's my girl. But there is one more thing I want to teach you," replied Grandma Wong. She took Ava's hand and walked into a new, beautiful place.

"Wow! Where are we?" asked Ava curiously.
"We are in Saudi Arabia, where the religion Islam is from," Grandma Wong was excited to share more.
"Is Islam a religion, too?" Ava asked.
"Yes, it is! Islam is a religion founded by Muhammad. Muslims pray and follow special rules to one God," Grandma Wong explained. "They have special rules they follow, like praying five times a day and being kind to others" (The Editors).
Ava wanted to know more about this religion. "Why do they pray five times a day?" Ava asked Grandma Wong.

"This is Saudi Arabia."
"Wow! This place is so pretty."
